missing bracket causing torque steer????
Wednesday, October 10, 2007 4:44 PM
this last year i did an engine swap in my buddys 99z and then i pulled my engine out of my 01z to rebuild it. the passenger side axle on my buddys car had a bracket attached to it, and was bolted to the back side of the engine. on mine, there is no bracket. it seems like the bracket adds a ton of support and really help the passenger side axle from moving when accelerating because it pretty much cuts the length in half (if you get what i mean, i'm bad at explaining). i'm thinkin this is what is causing my torque steer, but i was just wondering if anyone knows if just the pre 00 z24 just came with this bracket or support for the axle, or if i should have it on my 01 also. my car was in a wreck before i bought it, and maybe they just didnt put the right axle in?
thanks guys

Its called a jackshaft, or sometimes an intermediate shaft. Yes, it will help with torqusteer. I'm not a good resource for 3rd gen trannys. If someone here doesn't answer, ask in the Transmission forum.

as far as i know the pass side axle with the bracket was only used up to 97

but it does give the impression of equal length halfshafts , which helps some with tq steer

you should be able to use it

but keep in mind GM as far as i know now longer has anything for that style axle , so wrecking yards or aftermarket are your olnt chance of finding 1
