***FOR EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO DO A REAR DISC CONVERSION, READ THIS FIRST***
Monday, October 08, 2007 6:37 PM
This is very simple guys.

If you want to do a stock size rear disc conversion (Wait, what does this mean? This means that you want to do a rear disc upgrade because it looks good and you want slightly better braking to compliment your stock 10.2" front brakes), then the EASIEST and SIMPLEST and MOST ECONOMICAL and SMARTEST and LEAST TIME CONSUMING way is to do this via the neon rear disc conversion. It is very well documented, relatively easy to do, and its been proven time and time again to not only work, but over and over again with minimal modification. Let's stop all the idiocy of trying to do a rear disc conversion from every other car ever made when there's already something that works perfectly and looks amazing with the stock jbody brake setup.

There's nothing better than a bunch of Jbody owners trying to reinvent the wheel. Someone sticky this.

Is it your time of the month? lol

Seriously though, I have all the brackets, rotors, pads, etc for my Honda rear disc conversion. I've still gotta drill another hole to make the rotors 5 lug instead of 4, but it will work.................

You guys have obviously forgotten the five golden rules of the typical jbody owner. And if you don't agree with these, then you're either ignorant or haven't been here long enough.

1) Thou shalt not use thy search button. I mean what for? What's the point in doing research and doing some work to get there?
2) Thou shalt be cheap. I mean hell, $300 for a rear disc swap is WAY too expensive. I might as well try to make a hackjob out of something else that's gonna be cheaper.
3) Thou shalt not thoroughly think through questions before asking them. I mean, how exactly is it that you replace a spare donut with a full size tire? Lift out, put new in, rinse and repeat? Does a square peg fit in a round hole?
4) Thou shalt get pissed if someone calls you an idiot. This one is subjective, because it is on a case by case basis.
5) Thou shalt want to go against the grain, even when others recommend to you that there is a high probability it won't work, even though you came to ask their advice anyway. I'm not talking about doing new exciting stuff, I'm talking about doing stuff that most probably will never work because someone else has either already tried it and it didn't work, or, you just simply can't put a square peg through a round hole (see golden rule 3).

I might as well make one of these later for everyone who asks if they can do an AWD or RWD conversion with $500 and no prior mechanical knowledge or experience. In 3 weeks might I add.

Flame all you want, because I know there are people who aren't posting and are laughing because it's true.

i kinda agree and disagree with this post. i know what viper is saying. why all of these rear disc threads from xxx car are popping up i dont know. theres a good method already that works and has been proven so why try to do something different. on the other hand if it wasnt for someone trying to do something different then we would of never of found out about the neon swap.

Thou shalt not get too concerned when someone wants to butcher his J with some unholy combination of parts, because if they fail miserably there is likely an ample supply of replacement assemblies at the local wrecking yard.

It's not the oddball suggestions that bug me. It's the people who want to be original, but also want to be held by the hand during the process -- and then get pissy when nobody can tell them how to make their Frankenbrakes fit together.

How could you forget the most important rule:
Thou shalt "sticky" any opinion topic posted by Viper98912. His opinions are more important than anything else on JBO. Its not importatnt that he provides no technical info on a subject... not even unreliable info. All it takes is his supreme opinion and a "sticky" is a definite requirement and therefore it is justified to ask for it.

i agree and disagree as well. i applaud the people trying to be a little different with their cars, but i don't think brakes are the way to go. having a different brake setup isn't very original anymore. lots of people seem to think that they can make anything fit. if u want to do something different then just do it and post pics and details when your done. this would keep the flaming and nay saying to a minimum cause obviously you made it work. don't ask us to hold your hand then get mad because we don't want to get involved in your "frankenbrakes" or other weird assed ideas
