I'm looking for some advice on getting my car setup better for autox.
currently the car sits on koni yellows/goldlines, addco sways front and rear with poly bushings and endlinks, rksport subframe brace, a-arm poly bushings, and front and rear strut tower braces. my sedan sits on 18" tenzo's with 225/40/18 kumho ecsta ast's. Brakes are factory with the addition of aftermarket rotors (drilled and slotted which will be going to just slotted when they need replaced) and aftermarket pads.
i'm working on putting together a custom trunk floor brace and a custom tie bar for the rear addco. also looking into the TTR rear mounts. considering big brakes as well and possibly an autopower rollbar.
what else is out there aside from doing an IRS swap?
also, anybody have recommended specs for a performance alignment?
make that HT rear mounts... whoops
personally to give you some advice of my own... cause ive been researching this for months now....
- N/W/F body front brake swap (gives you 12" brakes)
- If you wanna really get into it..... the alero rear IRS swap.... it also gives you rear disks
- I would also switch to some kind of coil-over swap too
those are just my suggestions..... thats the route im going anyway
what class you aiming for? that makes a huge difference
well... last autox i was placed into novice modified althogh i'm not sure i was classed properly.
i'm not really sure what class i'm aiming for as much as i want to build a good cornering, competitive car that i can have some fun in.
^^ same here. the thing for me is, the nwf front and irs rear swap seems a bit over my head. i would love to do it, but im afraid id mess things up
* * BIG FOR SALE POST * *
yea... i'd prefer to go with an aftermarket big brake setup (wilwood, baer, ssbc) and i don't want to hack up the rear to put an IRS setup in. don't have access to the equipment necessary and if i ever do decide to sell the car, i can't see that helping with resale...
you're in street mod because of your carbon fiber hood (looked at your mods in your profile). Basically, you would need a lot of power and a real good suspension to be competitive. Get ground controls with real stiff springs, you might need to revalve the konis. get some lightweight wheels and put some r-comps on them. Then you're gonna wanna get the car around or under 2500lbs and have about 300whp. That's what you need to make the car competive, even then it still may not be.
Stay away from the irs swap, puts you into some rediculous class. Go find yourself the scca rulebook off of their website, talk to some of the people in your region, and look at the rules and see what class you wanna race in. Of course, always work on improving your driving.
i'm not too far off the 2500 lbs mark (unless you mean including the driver) i am looking into some lighter wheels but i'm not sure i want to go full r-comps
i ran sts last year with the cf hood and trunk...
technically, you should be in sm. a lot of times they don't care, especially if you are slow. I think sts is a good class for j's. I've trophied in a smaller region before on my crap tires, but those civics are hard to beat. But the same basics apply, real stiff springs and properly damped konis. Grab the rule book and start reading, if you get fast, they will get you on technicalities like a carbon fiber hood
yeah... one thing i noticed is they aren't very strict on classes........ thats just from my experiance.......
they placed me in STS on sunday..... placed 5th out of five cars.........

I didnt do to bad considering my @!#$ty little 2.2ohv..... speed is where i lost there.... plus my tires were complete @!#$
and those dnf's..... i wouldnt worry about those little guys
those last three runs were very consistant though so im happy with that. Those saturns were just insane though..... i watched them run and they were rediculously fast
see i placed 6th out of 21 drivers in NM... but if you look at the PAX adjusted times, you ran faster than i did as mine didn't adjust down at all.

I was trying to figure that out..... what do they mean by PAX adjusted?
my understanding is that it kinda levels the playin field between classes (not within classes)
it allows the econo cars to compete with the sports cars that have an obvious advantage... i could be wrong though...
Things that people do that effect your class.... for SCCA solo Racing
Shocks Only - Possible Stock Class (HS)
Cold Air Intake - STS
Springs - STS
Carbon Fiber hood will put you into prepared class (bad)
Big Brakes kit Front - SM
Xau
the hood is allowed in sm
big brakes i believe are allowed in stx (i could be wrong)
Yeah, they aren't very strict about rules when you are just starting off. Start trophying or challenging and they will bitch.
PAX is how they adjust times to equal everyone, however no non-st guy likes the st pax (they think its unfair). You can run in sts, but eventually someone will say something
well to put it into perspective, the guys running in the SM class at the last autox weren't too much faster than i was running (well 1 or 2 were significantly) and most were on dedicated racing tires while i was not.
i may shoot for SM. i'm more interested in doin this for fun and having a good handling car that i can enjoy than to go out and trophy every time.
I think im looking at STX next year... simply because of the 3400 swap.... i could be wrong though
no engine swaps allowed in any ST class as far as i know
