ok that's my question. how can I stop wheel hop?

2003 cavalier

i have:

tien coilovers
arm bushings
motor mounts
tranny mounts
team green LSD
Nankang tires

so let me know if yall have any ideas or tricks. I myself am going to set out to make an added suspension part that can tighten down the front wheels. But if yall have anything of your own that you would like to share from experience let me know

thanks

I bought front and rear sway bars, a vibrant front strut tower brace from Never Enough and it seems to have helped even though this wasnt the intention when i bought these products. Their website is being changed right now but if you would like a phone number i can give it to you (616-636-8856) I buy all of my parts from them. So far the best prices around that i have seen.

TTR tranny mounts are solid if you already do not have them. you could buy or make control arms with a little less flex. IE these or make your own out of grand am control arms. plus better tires.

Is already in the mod list he posted...

If you are having problems after all those mods, you probably want to look at more or less power/launch RPM or adjusting your struts because something must be wrong with your harmonics.

yea I am working on a design that would hook to your a-arms and would work as a downward spring tension on the a-arm to keep the a-arms form hopping but would be removeable for street purpose.

Better tires. Diff. launch.

And lsd= limited slip differential.

I've got a similar setup, with two differences, Ground Controls on Yellows and a Phantom Grip instead of Team Green. I launch at 2k on a street tire and 3k on a radial. I also have a two step so my launches are pretty consistant, I've got NO wheel hop at all. Street tires are 18" Summitomo HTR Z2, drag radials are 15" BFGoodrich. Good luck gettin it taken care of. I've seen wheel hop destroy a diff on a completely stock car.

Poly- arm bushings should reduce it. LSD is not made reducing wheel hop, if anything it will amplify it. What you can do currently and it is the cheap way out is by over inflating your front tires; as this way your contact patch will be reduced and with it traction, causing your tires to constantly slip and hence no hop, instead of slip-jump-grip-jump-grip-jump-grip when you have a full contact patch. If you want to make a more permanent fix put in all-season tires as these has less grip. Lastly, you may want to adjust your driving skill as well.

When are you getting wheel hop?? I want to say your right foot is the best controller of wheel hop. With the team Green LSD I feel it is better suited for drag racing over road racing. If it was a true LSD that will be better for road racing over drag racing. The TG insert can be over powered so it does not work as a LSD (more so in cornering). After knowing when you are getting wheel hop then how is your suspension (coilovers) set-up? If your wheel hop is when racing at the track well better tires (drag radials) should help. Again the cure all is controlling the right foot.

i had zero wheel hop in mine last time i went to the track;

- eibach sportlines
- koni reds adjusted to 3/4 turn from zero on all 4 corners
- prothane control arm bushings
- prothane lower engine mount
- prothane transmission mounts
- rksport upper mount
- gm front strut tower brace
- acdelco strut mounts
- vibrant rear strut tower brace
- eibach sway bar kit
- toyo proxes t1r p225/50zr16 tires running 30psi on all 4 wheels

all my launches were the same; once the clutch was dropped it was tire sheer all through 1st nice and smooth

launch differently.... i just went to the track for the first time and all morning i had wheel hop like crazy, but later in the day i began to slip the clutch better, whereas earlier id let it out a bit harsher. if i was u id try slipping the clutch. i have the team green lsd, full motor and trans poly mounts as well, i dont have the control arm bushing but i plan on those asap. through the morning i was having 2.5-2.6 sixty's and even had a horrible 2.8 when i was told to launch higher... then i slipped the clutch a bit and ended the day with some 2.2's this was all on the same tire pressure, i wish i would have lowered it some more just was having too much fun to stop and play with the psi

yea I am finishing my motor build and plan to run 18psi on the turbo so I am pretty much going to double the horsepower so I just want to try to elimnate wheel hop but I might try that clutch slipping technique. cause the car takes off when I am on a small roll . it's just when I start from a stop I have the extreme wheel hop

launch your car, not punch it.. that will remove wheel hop
