How hard are the Prothane Control Arm Bushings to Install? Does Anyone have any helpful tips or ideas? Or maybe some basic knowlege on these. Also maybe if you had a positive or negative experience with these would be great to know. Thanks
Sorry i really should have put this in the Suspension Forum.
I've installed them on my 95 2.2 sunfire.
I'll say this, don't forget to remove the metal insert in the original control arm. I kept trying and trying to install one of the two bushings into the control arm, and it wouldn't go in for nothing. Then, I learned I had to get out a small spacer that made the diameter of the hole smaller. Once that was removed, the bushing fit in like a glove. Use lots of oil, or lube or something. A press would be helpful, but i don't think it is required.
i just got done putting mine in 2 weeks ago. i couldn't figure out what was the top of the big bushing, so i guess as the top is the one with the numbers ingraved on it. and yea press would be best but i use a vise and a block of wood to push the bushing in. and yes use a lot of grease, there can never be too much. and putting the control arm back in the car is a pain too, i use a screw drive to pull the control arm in place. and watch when you take the stiffing brace off to get to the bolt to the control arm. when i was loosing mine i snapped it. hope that helps.
