Ok, i bought an air lift kit from someone. I intalled it and everything works. I Was so happy so i decided to test drive it but everytime i when hit a bump or turn, it sounds like something is gonna break (clucking sound)(front and back) so i just decided to go back. When i got home, i noticed that there's 2 dents on my hood where the top nut of the strut is, That nut is sticking too high.
OK..
When i got the kit off the guy, i didnt no anything on the air strut, (i just intalled it) i dont know if im supposed to do something to it first.
Does anyone have picture on how is the struts supposed to look like when installed? i need a guide and i cant find any.. THanKS
You most likely have a easystreet kit right? If so call Jim at easystreet and he will sell you 2 rubber washers to change in place of the rubber washers on the top of the strut mount. That was his fix to the problem. I however could not wait 2 years after owning the kit and grinded the tops down.
Here is a pic of a new and old strut. They should be assembled as so.
You can't really see the top of it but above the metal plate there is a rubber washer and then the nut. On the silver on, it has a flat washer, on the black one it has a rounder rubber washer.
The silver being the newer one.
several people had problems with the top shaft hitting the hood and leaving a dimple. you have to grind down that shaft alittle. i took a file to mine and just grinded it down
So that clucking sound is normal? And do i need to use the screws that came with the kit because i use the oem ones.
Zspeedcav
Can i use something else (the rubber part) because i currently have no credit card so i cant order some from jim. Thanks for the picture
StrippedCav98
Thanks, i might as well do that.
What screws? I would use all the hardware that came in the kit.
I just left that rubber part on my old one and it was fine. I just grinded the shaft down.
The clunking is normal but go around and check that all the nuts and bolts are tight.
Clunking when driving? Its scary to drive. haha. Which rubber part are you talking about zspeedcav?
it should be the last piece that was put on before the nut on the shaft. if you want to get rid of the clunking noise, use the 95-99 oem strut mounts. esb did that and said the clunking went away but you'll sit about 1/2" higher when you lower your car.
I have a clunk when hitting bumps.... But my struts bent. So the car just sits
...
StrippedCav98 , i used the front oem strut mounts and it reduced that clucking sound when im hitting bumps. BUT , do you know if i can also used the back oem strut mounts? Thanks
Stenger, what do you mean your struts bent? Is that a fix to the problem?
Few More Question:
1. What psi do you guys ride on for a comfortable ride?
2. Is there anyway i can adjust the air when inflating so it goes up slowly. I hit my head a couple of times when i hit the switch.
3. Do's and Dont's so my bags last me for a while.
Thanks everyone for the help. Sorry if im getting annoying. Just new to this kind of stuff.
I ride at around 40 front 60 rear when Im on bad roads, smooth roads I ride 20-25 rear 15-20 front unless im going straight then I ride at 0 in the front. You can get valve fill controls which is an inline inlet which goes between the valve and the bag and you can adjust it to have more air pressure passing through or less, less being a slower rise. Suicidedoors.com has them under their "air management" section I believe they are about 7 bucks a piece last time I looked
i usually oll like 40 front and 20-30 in the rear. i sometimes roll 0 in the rear but i already blew both struts so this winter means it is time for a new setup. these struts dont let me get low enough
No such thing as low enough!
My strut rod is bent so the passenger side front has no damping. The only way to get the corner to lay out is to go all down the driver up. Then driver down. Otherwise it rese about a inch higer than it should

i dont get your low enough comment. i was saying i need to go lower and the struts dont let me go low enough. i know there is no such thing as low enough thats why it has to be laying on the ground. im sick of this not laying rockers like eveyone else
how did you happen to bend the strut rod?
i think it was when I raised up to clear something, and forgot that there was another section that dropped down. When I came down, it may have bent the strut. That or from dragging on a road that was a little rougher than it looked.

Those white plastic ones used to be like 7 dollars a piece when I looked at them
