alright well i wanna go with a spring/shock package and i've narrowed it down to 2 tokico products. I hear that the d spec is identical to the hp struts the only difference is that dpecs are adjustable, is that true? How much of a difference does the adjustable settings help out? The car is my dd and the roads where i live are okay but we have them bad areas like anywhere else so if it'd be a better ride if spent the extra money for the adjustable settings thats obviously what i'd do. I notice i can get the hp for 600 and then dspec for 900(rounded up). Any thoughts on the packages?

D-specs are meant for lowering. HP's are not. HP's are basically OEM replacements. Chances are, they are a better design than the OEM stocks you have on the car now, however they will still wear out faster than a strut that is properly valved for lowering applications.
You can pick up d-specs for around $500 shipped on eBay. Add in another $225 (shipped, from Karo) for some Eibach Sportlines, and some replacement strut mounts (if needed), and you are sitting at or near that $900.
Alternatively, you can pick up the Koni suspension kit ($725 from Karo) or a set of tein basics for about $850 (shipped, eBay), and have the ability to adjust your height to your tastes. Mounts are not included.

It has recently become well-known that Tokico sells a couple of suspension packages, one of which includes the HPs and springs for a 1.4" drop. This would seem to validate claims that they have similar internals to the D-specs, save for the adjustable valving.

I just contacted Tokico with the following questions:
Quote:
I'm trying to gather information on your HP series and D-spec series struts for a 2002 Chevrolet cavalier (part numbers are HB3211/HU3745 and DSP-1, respectively).
I'm wondering: what is the acceptable range of ride height for each strut?
I am looking to lower my vehicle, however I would like to know what the struts can handle (i.e. at what ride height are these two struts no longer eligible for warranty).
I noticed that you also have full suspension kits, matched to each strut. Can you please give me more detailed information on these as well?
Thank you for your time.
I'll update when I hear back from them.
hps are not oem replacements they are ment for lowering. there are lowering kits with the hp strut and lowering spring. I hear they're identical to d spec just not adjustable.

Clicked in wondering what tokico will say.
yeah. a couple people have called about the HP's and have been told they are made for a 1.4" drop but people still swear that they are not. personally i think its BS. people have called the company and been told that they HP's are for lowering. why would a company lye to their customers about them. personally if i can find a good deal on the HP's im doing those and a Pro-Kit.
Hey...I spent 5 months looking into different struts..I spoke with Tokico on 5 different occasions...The told me over and over again from 5 differnet people...The hp is the same Set up internally as the Dspec with out the adjustment..They also went on to tell me that they would warranty up to a 1.8 inch drop..As long as the Bump Stops are cut...They also told me that for a everday driver the Hp will work great...If I was to be doing alot of track driving the Dspec would be a better choice..Due to the fact you can set it up..Dont get me wrong you can use the Hp strut if you would like for race application it just wont give you the adjustability...I decided to try the HP Struts..I have had them for a bit now and I am very happy..And have had people ride in the car and coment on how soild it feels....I am lowered 1.8 in the front and 1.4 in the rear...But to each there own..But if i change my set up one more time I will be using KW Coilovers..
