I have a 1998 Cavalier coupe, and the right-rear (pass side) suspension makes that wonderful knocking sound when I go over bumps. Now, I know that all I really need to replace is the strut mount, but I don't have a spring compressor and don't wanna go through that hassle.
What I want to do is buy the entire assembly - the strut, spring, strut mount etc - and just switch it back in. What's my best option for buying this? Will the dealership be able to get me this? Part numbers would be helpful.
I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.
that is an option, you buy it as an assembly it think Pep boys has them around here, it's from Monroe I believe . as for a spring compressor use the loan a tool program at Autozone, I think even Advance is doing it now( I could be wrong ) its not that big a deal to use and is only one more step to do vs. your idea.
I'm not sure where you live, but I work at partsource and we offere a "Quick Strut" for most vehicles. It comes with a new mount, spring, and strut all pre-assembled. The nice thing about it is we warranty each piece for life, including the mount. If your state side I dunno if autozone has an equivalent, but I bet they would.
There will always be someone faster than you, but thousands slower and dumber than you.
you can rent a spring compressor from autozone. even if you buy one their cheap. i got one for 35 bucks at sears.
i wouldnt go to a dealership, they will charge you out the ass. honestly your best bet is to head to a junkyard. id go and pull one, shouldnt cost you more than 40 bucks for a complete strut assembly if you pull it yourself.
do not get it from the junkyard! i love the junkyard but you don't know if the one your getting is any better than the one you have now. and if you in the south like me the sun has most likely baked the oils out of any rubber parts.
