please tell me that my konis will ride better...
Thursday, June 28, 2007 8:00 PM
i just got my new suspension done. i have eibach sportlines and koni yellows. before i had kyb gr2s and dropzone springs. i have driven on the yellows for about 100 miles and it still sorta feels the same as what i had on there before. i know this sounds weird but will the ride gradually get better as i break the struts in? i feel a little difference but i am not totally impressed yet. maybe me not having an alignment yet has something to do with it. plan on getting one either friday or saturday.

Sportlines are a low ride, not very comfortable spring. I dumped mine in favour of the Pro-kit and I'm extremely happy

Maybe slightly, but I wouldn't count on it. If they do seem to "get better", it's more likely because you're getting used to them. As Philly said, the main advantage you have with the Yellows is that you can adjust them for firmness. We don't know what a "better ride" means to you, so you'll have to decide that for yourself. An alignment shouldn't affect ride so much as steering stability and tire wear.

Damn... I'd be afraid to shatter my windows if I did that for regular driving.

I have the same setup and was equally disappointed with the ride QUALITY on the full soft setting. I thought it would be similar to stock in terms of the way it took bumps and things of that nature. I was wrong.

Like Lenko said, it's the Sportlines, they're made for handling, not so much for a 'Cadillac' feel, if you will.

I've yet to adjust mine firmer to see how it rides, I'm almost ready to as I'm 80 miles away from the break in period being finished.

In certain terms I enjoy the ride because it gives the car a more sportier feel, but when the car gets to bouncing and taking bumps, my enjoyment goes down. I am happy with the setup though, just wish the ride quality was slightly better, I'll deal with it though as it's not my daily driver.

I was perhaps overly-enthusiastic in my reviews of Sportlines with D-specs, when I first got that setup. Something that I didn't really take into account when I was commenting on the potential for a "near-stock ride" was that I had been running on 35-series tires and half-blown OEM struts for so long, they really didn't seem that bad. And truly -- at full soft -- they do pretty well with the amount of suspension travel they have to work with. I hear Road Magnet springs are a better choice for comfort in this regard.

There's no doubt that the Sportlines are a compromise on comfort for the sake of looks. How much of a compromise, depends on a person's own goals for their car.

Sportlines in my opinion is the best Spring for a J. I had pro-kit. Dumped them. Just not low enough in the front. I went from Pro-kit on stock struts to Sportlines on Koni's. Love them!!!! I have the rears on full hard the fronts on full soft (which on certain roads can cause for a funny ride). Time to put the fronts on medium. My 96 has Pro-Kit with Mantapart Blisteins to me rides the same, but handle like poo.

The only suspension set-up I have seen to ride close to or better than stock was Mantapart Full Blistein coilovers.

Yeah the Sportlines are pretty harsh... I'd like to swap them for something with a slightly lower spring-rate but I hate to give up the drop they give because I think it looks perfect.

I know mine are, but that is a good point. No sense reducing available suspension travel even more by forgettting to do that.

If you guys bitch about Sportlines/Yellows I'd love to see some of you with a full coil setup.

Riding in my buddie's Cav with Sportlines/Yellows is like riding on a pillow of air versus my Gravanas.

I have heard horror stories about the ride with Gravana's.

i had skunk2's on stock struts. worst mod i ever did to my car, i think it wouldnt have made a difference if i woulda welded the shafts on the stuts solid, it rode THAT bad.

im not saying the ride is crap with yellows/sportlines, simply saying that i THOUGHT it would be better. the ride is decent, i was just expecting to much,

Sportlines are more for looks than performance. I dont know about the guys with no body kits, but i have the j-body from RK sport and theres no way i would want the sportlines.......too low. i also made cut-outs in the rear bumper so my exhaust wouldnt scrape.

Sportlines are not too low for a body kit. I have a full kit. People just need to know how to drive a lowered car.

Depends where you live. I had the car in Pittsburgh for the last 5 years. If I didnt know how to drive a lowered car, I wouldnt have a body kit....or exhaust. I live in florida now, which is night and day compared to pgh. So.....I will correct myself. Sportlines are too low in Pittsburgh for sure. the pro kit is just better anyway.

I have driven my car in many different cities north and south with Sportlines no problem. Again you nailed it you have to know how to drive a lowered car. no different than knowing how to drive a car with power.
