Upgrading Suspension
Sunday, May 13, 2007 5:39 PM
I don't think I will be lowering my car like I had wanted to because roads and parking lots are wayyy to bad round here so I was wondering what would be a good upgrade suspension wise? I only have a front strut bar right now.

Rear sway bar, or F&R and rear if you can afford it. My rear sway bar is hands down, for the money, my favorite suspension mod. Koni Yellows, or other adjustable shocks, are a nice thing to add. www.gravanatuning.com

Absolutely. IMO, all cars capable of 60 MPH should have one from the factory.

Definitely agree on the sway bar. Some people don't notice a big difference, or argue that you don't need one if you're not in competition. I agree with the 60MPH comment in that I think it made my car safer. I found that emergency maneuvers, especially at high speed, became much more predicable.

The rear is rediculously easy. Nearly all my car servicing is handled by a mechanic, but I've performed two service procedures on my car personally: changing the tires, and installing a rear sway bar.

If you wanted to change your front bar, that's a different story. I understand the process is pretty involved.

ok cool new rear bar it is! after that I want to save up and put some good shocks and struts maybe the gr2s since I can't lower it. Also any comments on the neon rear brake setup good or bad?

I'm not aware of anyone that has been unhappy with the Neon rear brake install. It's an inexpensive rear disk conversion and because everyone makes Neon and Cavalier rotors it's very easy to put Powerslot rotors on the front and rear and still have them match. I have 2 friends with it done and they seem very happy, one even has the Baer setup on his other Cavalier and he's happy with both.

what about the bolt pattern do you still use the cav's wheel hub assembly?

Prepare to do some reading but this sticky should answer all of your questions. http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=3&i=92768&t=92768

ok that seems like it wouldn't be so bad in puttin it into the car just getting the e-brake cables to tie together and adjusted would be the worst of it. if I did go with this setup I would get it from the GP so all the guess work on that end is done for me. anyone who did this have any comments on difficulty?

Your best bet is going to be using the search feature or asking in an existing thread specifically about the brakes. You'll get more responses, I'm sure it's been answered in the 11 pages of the thread above. It's also dependent on your skill level and none of us know what yours is. It was goddamn easy for my friends, but they may be more advance with tools than you. On a scale of 1easy-10hard it was a 1 for them, but who knows an oil change for you may be in the 7's.

lol no i do know my way around a wrench and do most of my own work when i can that is. i was just curious as to how in depth it was to make that system work and if it was worth the work involved.
