I am in the process of replacing the front pads and rotors on my 04 coupe. The caliper to knuckle t55 bolts were flush with the mounting holes when removed them. However after replacing the rotor and pads the caliper to knuckle bolts screw in but stop 1/4 inch short of being flush with the screw holes, is this normal??
Thanks in advance
Jay
It's normal.
The caliper slides on those bolts as the pads wear down, make sure there is plenty of grease on those bolts so you don't run into problems with pads wearing abnormally.

Thanks for the reply, i got it all put back together and the new wagner thermoquiets work great.
I noticed the pads i removed were worn on one side more than the other, guess my former dealership didn't do a very good job last time i was in for brake maintenance.
Yeah, the sliders weren't greased properly basically. As long as you make sure and grease them up well, shouldn't be any problems..

aren't those supposed to be 3/8 Allen heads? I know mine are

Mine were too, but it varies. If the slider bolts were ever replaced, it's anybody's guess as to the drive head style used, all that really matters is the thread pitch and the size of the "sliding" portion.
My Fiero started as Torx, but when I replaced the rear calipers, they came with allen head sliding pins. So my fronts are held on by T55 torx, and the rear a 3/8 allen. Go fig. Next brake job that car gets will see that fixed though, the front calipers need new pins, as they're creaking really bad when you hit the brake pedal.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
I think most years use t55 or 3/8 torq bolts.
