ok... first off i need to explain a few things.
i bought a set of coilovers from a shop locally here that a customer didnt have installed on their car. they were Skunk2 coilovers. they did NOT come with instructions.
i went down to the local Tuffy to try and see if they could figure out how to install them, they said yes no problem-they could do it. so i went ahead and had them install the coilovers. when i went down to pick it up i was discusted, the car hadnt dropped an INCH-and the coilovers were set to full drop. and the car rode like CRAP, i mean TOTAL CRAP. bump steering and it felt like the suspension had no movement at all.
this is my car as it sits now:
as you can see... no drop whatsoever.
al right. i was looking through some pictures of installed coilovers on a website and i noticed something odd-none of them looked like my setup. what i came to concluding was what i THINK happened here.
correct me if im wrong, but i think im right. The kit came with these little rings about the size of the adjustment aluminum stocks that the spring sits on. they were never used. Tuffy just sat those aluminum pieces down on the stock spring perches-and i think this may be my problem. so, with all that being said... would i be able to go ahead and take them all apart again-cut off the perches, and tap down those tappered rings so that the coilovers would sit at the right spots on the struts? i also am thinking this is why the suspension sucked balls afterwards-because the springs were like just compressing after the tiniest little bumps and the coils were ramming into each other.
any insight on this guys?
thanks a lot.

if the adjustable parts are there you cant drop it , kinda like like the hats were slid over the shaft and the springs installed on top of the hats , then assembled
im guessing you have the cheap coil overs ?
their not cheap coilovers but they arent fully designed for our cars. ive had the exact same ones on my koni reds. they did install them wrong. the perches should of been knocked off. when i had mine installed i could lower it all the way down to tuck the top of the tires (not recommended but thats how low it would go). knock off the perches and you should be fine. i hope you have some type of aftermarket strut on there.
honestly, ive decided to go with koni yellows and eibach sportlines for this car, but these coilovers and my stock struts may just find their way on to my 97 z24 someday... but who knows.

eh, i wouldnt put them on stock struts. not very safe at all
well, too late lol i already did! but anyways, i think they would be fine if i kept the car at a resonable level, not dropped. and actually had them installed right so the springs dont basically collapse on each other crushing the coils.
BUT, eventually im sure i'll get another set of yellows for the other car.

He meant to say very not safe at all. Your life, as long as you're not on the same road as me.
well, i can see why there not safe as of right now because the were installed incorrectly... but how would it be dangerous if they were done right? even so... it wouldnt be dropped on the ground anyways... so i dont see your point.

I dont see the point as saying anything about a car being lowered struts isnt safe "because the struts will blow". I am willing to bet a good 30+% of the driving population is riding on blown struts and do not realize it.
