I know im going to get hated for this

So....i know everybody here hates the cheap coilover springs that can be bought off ebay. I know everybody thinks they suck and that they are unsafe....but why knock on people who have these. Because maybe its just me. BUT...thse are alot safer than just cutting the stock springs...right?? and what is the worse that can happen even if people do buy the cheap ebay springs. The struts blow out. and what? Tell me so i can know so i can talk people out of doing both? Dont hate me for saying this.

read all about dropzone here. i think they are just as bad as cutting stock springs. these springs arent designed for our cars and have very high spring rates. they wear out other suspension parts quicker, they blow struts and can cause accidents. blown struts are bad. blown struts are gonna cause you to bounce over every bump. imagine doing 75 on the highway and trying to change lines. hit a bump and see how much different it is to control the car compared to a car with good struts. its not safe for you or others around you.

eh.. i dont even have EBAY cheap coilovers, i have skunk2's... and they are believed to be better than the ebays...and they are JUNK. TOTAL JUNK.

do you like hitting MINOR bumps and having it sound like a bomb went off? do you like bump steer? if so, than by all means, go ahead and get these coilovers. i spent $370 on purchase and install of mine, worst decision of my life. i will never again use coilovers, nor skunk2 products.

if you would like to do it right. koni yellows and eibach sportlines. thats my new choice im going with.

and oh yeah.. just for reference, if your looking for a quick drop-which im thinking thats why u asked, i did the same. anyways... my skunk2's dropped my car a 1/4 of an inch, not 4 INCHES like they claim... and this is on FULL DROP. they suck.

But what if the epople who are buying the ebay sold coilovers just want the lowered "look" and cant afford the koni yellows and eibach sportlines? i mean take me for example...im just sitting on stockers now...and i do want the lowered 'look' but i cant afford the koni yellows and eibach sportlines. And im not gonna lower myself to buy the ebay springs...but im trying to stick up for the people who have them and dont want to say anything in fear of getting their head bittin off. Ive read what you said baggedcav98 and i know i dont know anything. thats because i have never delt with anything like this before. ya know...so dont hate me to harsh

Start putting money away... $20 a paycheck if that's all you can afford.

Pull some OT at work (if you can) and save that extra money. That's what I have to do to be able to afford things for my car.

if you can't afford them, then you save up... or buy slightly used ones.

I'd rather spend the money, than risk my life, the lives of the people riding in my car, and/or those around me.

so put a bunch of bricks in your car and it will have that lowered look.

why are they on ebay to being with? i dont see TTR, Gravana or RKSport selling DropZones. Gravana has alot of springs to choose from, so why do they exclude the stuff from ebay?

if you cant wait to save up the money and do it properly, then you shouldnt do it. if you feel that is the correct decision then go and do it. but dont wonder why your car rides like crap and why you have to spend double to fix your problems

Proven facts:
-Blow struts (or heavily worn for those who don't understand what blown are) take up to 33% longer to stop the vehicle in road tests.

How can that be? They don't effect the brakes, they don't make contact with the road. What they do is keep the car planted firmly against the ground. These are real world numbers, not some hypothetical "it could be this"; this is what actual test results showed.

-Blow struts reduce the amount of G-forces a car can handle by up to 25%.

How hard can you take a turn? Ever wonder how the exact same type of car bone stock, but a few years newer, can take that same turn faster than you can? It's almost guaranteed to be the struts. This becomes particularly important when swirving to avoid an accident.

Numbers like these are supported by independant 3rd party testing of struts. Ask the strut manufacturing companies and they'll tell you the same thing (most likely with larger differences).

Those cheap springs can actually be forced into improving a J-Body's handling, but it will cost more than doing it right in the first place, and requires quite a bit of knowledge and effort.

You will create a poorly handling car. You may have an accident because of it. Aswell, there have been afew people who had the spring perches break on them while driving.

If you want to lower your car, do it properly. Save up your money, and buy a proper kit. If you can't afford to do it, pick up over time, find a higher paying job, cut down on your living expenses, or be happy with the stock suspension.

We'd rather not see you die as a result of going cheap on your suspension.

What are you going to do if your cheap Ebay suspension fails while you're going full tilt on the highway?

As someone who cheaped out in the past... sorta... (I used stock struts on Eibach Sportlines... rode awful!!!).. save yourself the headache and $$$ and woes later and do it right the first time.

Just do it right the first time and save more money in the end. Why put your life (and the lives of your passengers) at risk when you can deal with looking stock for oh say 6 months, saving around $100 a month, and not having to redo everything when something screws up? And there are ways to save up. 20oz coke ~$1 a day ($180 in 6 months), candy bar is about the same, don't eat out all the time, etc. Or donate plasma for extra cash (~$55 a week added).

ive even seen tien basic's for as low as 500 and come on, it tien!!!! on of the most respected companies in the business, so tell them to save and get rims, tires and suspension all at once, no point in putting in better suspension if your running stock tire, it looks horrible (im talkin 14's) and you still get alot of sidewall roll.

think it through and be safe, cause it doesnt matter how sweet of a deal you got if your dead!

i think whoever installed your messed up and you must not of have very good struts. i agree that skunk2 arent the best (yes ive had them before the bags) but with konis they were still not that bad. i think its funny that you had one bad experience with coilovers and now refuse to use them ever again.

btw i was able to tuck my tires w/ my skunk2s so i dont know who installed yours

Guess you'll never understand the enjoyment of Teins then, and the added handling over a basic spring setup.

hey..its just my personal preference guys... i dont like coilovers, whats so wrong with that? i dont like the way they install, dont like the way they look, all n all...like i said before-never again will i use coilovers.

i myself, would much rather have lowering springs.

tuffy installed them... i guess i could acctually lower my fronts another 2 inches... they had them as low as they would go in front when i first got it back... and it rode even worse, it was seriously like riding in a frickn lo-lo with zero suspension. the front was nice n low...the back was up in the air, it looked absolutly stupid, so i raised the fronts to match the rears.
the backs are seriously down as low as they can go and the back looks completly STOCK.

Nobody hates you. They're trying to keep you from getting yourself into something you want no part of. I've seen a lot of people - even myself - pay a big price for cheaping out on the suspension. There are a lot of people here that have never used these springs and only say they're bad because Bagged or CTS does. And Bagged and CTS are right. So ultimately, so are the others that agree with them. I for one am no suspension guru and I've learned the hard way so I think I'm one of many that can honestly tell you to stay away from them. I ordered a set of coilovers from Jegs of all places the first time I decided to lower a car. I figured, hey, it's a reputable distributor, why not. Know what they were? Dropzone. And being new to suspension I was dumb enough to believe the "works with stock struts" bull sh*t and you know what happened? I hated every minute. The shocks - which were brand new Tokiko HPs - blew within about a week. My strut mounts lasted a month. And I can't tell you how many times I hit my head going over bumps. Cornering? What cornering? I took a perfectly good handling car - AWD and everything - and turned it into a lumber wagon. A Mack truck could have outhandled me. And the ride quality? Forget it. My kidneys felt like I picked a fight with a mafia hitman.

Now, if ALL you want is looks - say for a show car that seldom if ever gets driven, fine. I still wouldn't do it, but that's me. I've seen sound-off guys put them on their cars - which never get driven - and they've held up okay. Kind of hard to destroy the suspension with the car sitting in a garage or on a trailer I guess.

Ok the spring rates are too high for the stock struts, what about Koni yellows and cheap coilovers? Just curious if anyone has even tried that yet.....

I'm sure it would ride harsh but would solve the bounce. Maybe the components to build the coilovers are cheap and could also fail. Another thing to consider.

The hardware on the DZ kits looks like it's all cheap cast aluminum. I still have the sleeves and stuff in a box, I'm sure I'll find some use for them. I used the springs to make a raised platform on my workbench to mount my bench grinder lol.

cheap suspension parts will cost you more money in the other parts you have to replace.

Speed costs money, if you can't afford it and arn't willing to save for it, find another hobby.

Nothing is wrong with that, just until you've tried a quality setup, I don't understand how you can knock them. Teins are full replacements, the install is easier than a spring install as there's no compression involved, so they bolt right up. They actually dampen, unlike you're cheap coilovers on stock struts, so ZERO BOUNCE.

No need to scare people away from quality setups because you cheaped out and learned the hard way.

You're right. There's not much wrong with this sort of setup. It would be harsh and very uncomfortable. It would also start ruining other things. But this isn't a cheap setup, so most probably wouldn't get good struts and crappy springs.
