Solid rear strut mount?
Thursday, November 16, 2006 5:16 AM
As evryone knows there is no good rear strut mount for our cars. I have a 2001 and would like to make a billet aluminum solid rear mount. Just a piece of billet aluminum shaped like top of the stock mount with a hole in the center, using nylon washers top and bottom to help eleviate rattles. Maybe even putting some form of rubber on the bottom side for the spring to rest on (so as not to be up against the aluminum). Has anyone every tried this? Thoughts and ideas? What would this do to the ride? FYI - I am running Koni yellows and S-Tech springs.

I designed one a while ago, and the idea was scrapped because it would have to be machined out of something like a 160x160x180mm block of T6 aluminum. The cost because it was such a strange size block was prohibitive.
I'll look over my drawings when I get home, maybe it wasn't quite that big, but it was very large.
When I contacted a shop to make them their supplier didn't even carry aluminum that thick, it would have been special ordered. It could be more easily made with a lost-foam casting, but the tooling would be very expensive again.
I'll send you the drawings if you want, but good luck making them.

The Tein SS suspension comes with solid front and rears.

Probably the easiest way is to just order a replacement rear mount from them and try to copy it maybe.

C.T.S, could you forward your drawings to me - cteaston7@hotmail.com. That would be great especially if you have specs on bolts holes and center.

Mastin - I was under the impression that Tein only made a front mount. I have heard rumors of the rear mount coming, but nothing to my knowledge.

thanks

Nope,
Front and rear both solid.
Front with the pillowball camber plate set up.

I 'could' try to snatch them off Event's rear struts.
But I value my life a little.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
