outlaw vs wilwood

i know wilwood is one of the top of the line companies for brake components. but has anyone heard of outlaw brakes?

my automotive club went to a dealerships race facility where we got to drool over their cars... one of the mechanics was telling us that wilwood brakes were sh!+ and i was like ... he took us to one car and had us examine the brakes and they looked well worn... then he showed us the 2nd car and the rotors looked almost brand new...

he told us that the first car had wilwoods and had been used for a couple races.. the second car had outlaws and had been used... for over a year!

now the next thing he said was shocking... he was telling us how the (dont quote me on this i cant remember exactly) owners (of wilwood) son didnt like how his father was doing business and left the company... started his own and is now called outlaw...

ive been looking and it seems as though they are only for race applications... i wouldnt mind getting ahold of some if i knew they worked... i was impressed...

opinions?

I've been extremely happy with Wilwoods too. I just want a full setup front and rear that's going to be lighter than the Baers, and that matches.
plus, seeing "OUTLAW" through my Black Racing rims would be bad ass.

My only issue with this.

1.) Were the brakepads the same?
2.) Were both cars driven by the same driver?
3.) Were either set cryotreated?
4.) How were the rotors broken in?

There are a lot of factors that would contribute to rotor wear.

Brake components should wear.

ok, has anybody actually looked at their website?

outlaw's stuff, including size, dimensions, bore sizes, and just EVERYTHING are IDENTICAL, and i mean IDENTICAL to the wilwoods. my guess is that outlaws are just repainted wilwoods, kinda like what precision brakes does.

that mechanic is uber cool.

also, i dont trust someone who lists kinetic energy as

Kinetic Energy = Mass(weight) x Velocity(Speed) x Velocity(Speed)

.

^ tell that to brembo and any other hi performance braking company out there.

come on, they even use the same 7 digit style numbering system wilwood uses 123-4567.

good questions... that i cant get the answer to... this was all last year and i dont have a car right now...

im sure the brakepads were probably the same... and yes it was the same driver... if they werent broken in then neither would have been but if they were they probably would have been done in the same fashion

Not arguing for or against this company, but if the story is true about his son leaving Wilwood and starting this company, it wouldn't be a surprize that he used all the same basic specs and the same part numbering system.

I'd still be skeptical since I've never heard of them and never heard of anyone running them. Also, as stated above, there are so many factors with wear that you really have to compare them in a controlled environment.

eh, I haven't gotten an email from them yet. so it appears to be a dead end.

Not on the big brake lineup, but these might interchange if they match the stock GM specs (hole spacing, pressure, etc):

If not, here's some more:

Ok... never mind then.

IDK. Best I could find googling is that darn near every forum that has wilwood and outlaw in the same sentence is listed as "wilwood/outlaw" -- so I'm going with the repainted/rebadged theory.
