Went to bleed the brakes on my moms 98 z24, where i discovered that there is no fluid going to the rear brakes!
I had a friend pump the brakes, I craked open the right rear bleeder, and no fluid came out. Same thing on the left rear.
The front brakes bled fine, as did the two bleeders on the master cylinder.
( For those that are questioning my mechanical ability, I bleed brakes all the time on my Legends and LMS race cars).
Before I go ripping apart and replacing pieces of the brake system, any suggestions?
don't worry about it, the rears are drums and they aren't really used. My 91 chevy pickup has drums and I haven't changed the brakes since I got it. GOt it with 32K on it, now its got 180K. Yes I use it to tow, and no I have never had an issue. Actually it was my step dad's and he is a mechanic and drag races, he said there is no point, if the e-brake works then ur fine cause thats about all drums use. I also talked to another mechanic and he concured. I would be interested tho if you did investigate this further tho to know what the issue really is.

Rear brakes most certainly ARE used and if they're not working, that's a problem. The rear brakes keep the car under control when braking so it doesn't just nosedive forward.
Drum brakes might be crappy, but they still do their job and should still be in good working order.
yeah, and with drums taking on all of 20% of the braking responsibility, I'm not a firm believer.... If you can tow a 1980 1/2 ton chevy pickup to Lebanon Valley taking back roads that are more hilly than SanFrancisco for the last 10 years without a hitch, then I would be so inclined to say that they really aren't important. Tho, I would say, if you have a ton of air in the line then you are going to have issues, spongy brakes etc. Were you trying to gravity feed them? How much of an incline was the car on the jackstands?
