Installation Cost for Tein Basic
Thursday, June 29, 2006 4:00 PM
Hey i was getting quotes today for getting the Tein Basic Damper Coilover kit put in today mainly for the fact that i have no knowledge of suspension at all. I got a range of quotes from $200-$450. What do you think an average price would be to put these on? I would rather not spend $450 in just putting the kit on along with the kit price itself! Would i possibly be able to put these on myself if i have never done suspension work before?
Thanks
burks

you could definitely do the install yourself. i had never even looked at a jbody suspension before i installed my gravana coilovers. i just grabbed my haynes manual, read some faqs in the suspension forum, and went to town. its actually really easy to do. get some friends together and have at it.

how long of an install is it you think? and i talked to a friend today about helping me and he told me to look into a camber kit. I have heard both ways about a camber kit and wondered if you put a camber kit on yours too?

I'm not sure about the camber kit but as far as installing the TEIN Basic's, it should be a direct swap. Direct as in pop the stock ones out and slip the new ones in.

i have tein basics. took me and some friends not even two hours. and we were fooling around half the time. Save yourself some money and do it yourself. you dont not need a camber kit.

Do it yourself. The hardest part will be trying to get the bolts loosend if they are been on there a long time. Its smooth sailing from there man, honestly.

Its a very easy install.

Spend the money on an air compressor and some air tools.

so do i need a spring compressor or anything to get the stock setup out? or is it just unbolt the 3 bolts on top and the ones on the bottom...replace it with the teins and bolt that back up? How hard is it to adjust the coilovers with the given wrenches?

you dont even really need a spring compressor at all. when i installed my springs i did it without, the spring only made a little jump, its not gonna kill ya.

Ill make a sig someday

if you are removing the mounts and reusing them then use get a spring compressor. dont listen to what anyone says about needing it. those springs are under alot of pressure and can do damage. sicne you have the basic kit, it already comes together. my suggestion is just get new mount. this way you can put the mounts on the kit and then just swap corners saving you a ton of time. basically remove the 2 lower bolts behind the rotors and the 3 bolts in the strut tower for the front and it comes right out and you can swap in the new stuff w/ the brand new mounts. then you can do the same for the rear. take the bolts out of the strut tower in the rear and the 1 bolt behind the drum. shouldnt take you more than an hour.

as for the camber kit, our cars do not require a camber kit.

So the only thing i would need a spring compressor for would be to get the mounts off of the springs? Arent new mounts kinda spendy ($50 a mount or so?)

New mounts from GM will set you back a bit, fronts go for about $120.00 each and the rears about $40.00 each.
I say about cause prices vary from dealer to dealer.

go to advanced auto parts for the strut mounts. their monroe, its SOOOO easy to do. you need a 21mm socket and a 13 mm socket for the front, and a 13 and a 18socket for the back +3 hours. if you dont know what ur doing
