my lower ball joint is broken. help please.

i busted out my lower ball joint on the drivers side on the control arm. im wondering if its an unbolting style ball joint or if the whole arm has to be replaced.

im going to have a shop do it. ive called every shop in the city and get prices ranging from 140$ to 305$.

does it really matter who does it? is there anything i need to know about ball joints? i would do it myself but i dont have the tools to get it out.

The ball joint is pretty easy to do. They have to drill out the original riviets and the new one gets bolted in. I'd go to the least shadiest shop to have it done (but I wouldn't spend $300 on it). You may want to have them double check you alignment after it is done.

id use a grinder and grind the ends off the rivits and use a punch and hammer to push them out the other side

the new 1's come with bolts to attach them to the a arms

New ball joints from autozone... $19.99 each with lifetime warrenty...

Control arm bushings are fun to replaces also when you are putting new ball joints in. Drilling prolly takes 5 min, just when you drill work your way up in sizes. The mushroom will break loose when you get big enough.

G'luck.

Ball joints are a pita if you haven't done one before. Find a friend who has done one or take it to the least shady shop as said above.

air hammer with a chizel attachment works well to knock out the rivet heads also, then just punch them out..
