Spring difference? 2.2 vs. 2.4?
Wednesday, May 17, 2006 3:14 PM
Is there a difference between stock (95-99) 2.2l springs and the Z24 Springs as far as height goes?

I am going back to stock suspension, and when I look at the stock cavs around here it almost seems like the base models sit higher than the Z24's?

I have the 2.2l model and I am curious if this is true or if its an illusion with the different style bumpers?

Thanks guys.

the suspensions from 95-05 are all the same, regardless of the model. the only thing that changed was in 2000, they changed the strut mounts, thats it.

Ill make a sig someday

The difference in look is usually because the Z24's have skirts on them so they appear lower.

as weasel said... the only real hight difference comes with the skirts, which only make the Z24's look lower (just as you thought). same springs and struts too. so youre good

There are several different designs for the springs, but they all have about the same spring rate and the same height.

the difference in rim size can help do it too. i know that when i got rid of my 14 steelies for 16 rims it looked like it sat lower, but its still at the same height.

Could have fooled me. One guy I work with has a Z24 and it seriously looks to me like it's lowered. It even appears to have a smaller wheel gap then my RS did stock but he insists it's all stock.

Yep. Older cars can sit a bit lower and since the stock springs have reasonably low rates, putting weight in the car can easily lower it noticably.

Not to thread jack, but if the 2.2's have the same suspension as the 2.4 Zs why is it that the suspension for the Z's is referred to as the sport suspension?

98 Z24

Sway bars changed in different "suspension packages", that's it.

See Event's post above. The difference is in the stabilizers.
