Swaybar?
Saturday, May 13, 2006 9:33 AM
My car has no OEM front swaybar or anything at all, and I'm looking to get both fronts and rears here pretty soon. I really don't know much about suspension and I've read the FAQ, but I'm still not sure which front and rears to get that will give me a pretty neutral setting. Thanks guys.

well eibachs come as a set and are matched to give neutral handling, or go with the addco's they are matched up also but sold seperatily

No,
Eibach is still understeer,
Larger front vs the smaller rear 25.4mm front, 22mm rear.

Short answer if you want neutral steer,
18mm front, 22mm rear
or
22mm front 25.4mm rear

Short answer,

Is there an advantage or disadvantage to having the smaller bars or the larger bars?

Have you had an Eibach setup? or are you going on word of mouth? The reason I ask was I was told that it was designed for neutral handling.

For some reason that seems backwards to me... shouldn't the larger bar be out front to help keep the ride level with the extra weight of the motor over it? With the smaller one you will have more body roll and with the larger rear you will probably end up lifting the inside rear wheel in hard turning due to the front body roll... or am I way off here?

Well,
My car has the 22mm front from the factory.
So right off the bat the car is understeering.

And I've comboed it with 19mm, 22mm, and two forms of 25.4mm rears.
Only the 25.4mm neutralized things.

Cars are made with natural understeer fo safety reasons.
So if there is a larger bar up front in any form.......... then you'll get understeer.

So to get a 'neutral' you need smaller front and larger rear.

Now if you have NO front and a large rear, then you'll be getting OVERsteer.
Fun on dirt roads. Not so fun on twisty ice mountain roads.

I haven't done as many bars, but i can tell you that with a smaller bar up front you will be neutral as can be. with 18mm up front and 22mm in the rear, all 4 tires would break free at about the same time. when i added a sub-frame brace. it made me under-steer a little bit more. now that i have a 24.5 up front and a 22mm in the back, it plows like theres no tomorrow. I'm getting the rear addco soon, so i don't wreck myself.

( shameless plug: I have both bars i would let go pretty cheap if you want it, just PM me. )

Scruffdog if your front bar is 19mm then your very close to neutral, if its the 22mm your still in the under-steer ccategory the reason was stated above. with the bars being the same size the car goes back to its natural under-steer that was engineered in the first place.

Ive got the Eibach setup, and she still has a small tendency to oversteer, even with both bars. With the just the rear, and the factory 22m, sort of oversteered more, i like less roll from the bigger front..
