Addco's Rear 1'' (25.4mm) intall Q
Wednesday, April 12, 2006 4:21 PM
I was looking at the rear bar and all the hardware. Now my questions are.

1.The large black bolt (3.5''), what is that for? Does that replace lower strut stock bolt? If so which way would it go and what's hold it up.--- I am not seeing this to clearly.
2. Do you guys recommend to do this on jacks and off the ground?
3. Eventhough the instructions are strait forward, I still would like to ask if any one has some pics of it intalled.

TY people.

Just did mine. The bolt replaces the lower strut bolt, yes. I jacked up one side, took out the stock bolt, and installed the new bolt with the bracket. Lower that side. Repeat for the other side. Then with the vehicle down, install the D-bushing clamps (with the sway bar inside of course) and let the bar hang. Then attach the bar to the link on one side, then the other. Its a cake install!! Good luck!!

I have one of the older ones that you have to drill a hole for the end link to bolt into.

I definatly would suggest jacking up the rear end. It makes life so much easier.

If you are having trouble with the u/ v bolts going over the rear axle place them over the axle where you want them to be. Next get the flat metal plate on there and start the nuts. Tighten both of the nuts down and it will snug the u/v bolt up as you do it. Then just remove the nuts and continue on with the install.

Here is a pic of mine installed but it was a drill the holes type and is powdercoated. Also I bought some prothane bushings for it since I got it used.

P.J. I have heard about that problem with the U bolts. I don't know about a solution, however i was told they redesigned those so you don't have to bend them. Mine went right on. I would maybe contact Addco to trade your bar in for the new one.

Julio- Yes the eibach has always been bolt on and now the addco is too.

Kustom 96- Great group purchase, just got mine through here. http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=50&i=22990&t=22990

P.S. some one tell my how to lable links. I suck at the web.

Hey PJ,
Just use your oil filter remover clamps.

The ones that look like a giant C.

I too have the older style.

So what you guys are saying is basically is a 1" version of the Eibahc/RK sport rear style?
Intereesting, I wanna see this.

PIC!!!!!

Another question.

For the 'D' bushings, are they now saying to install them hump side up?
To better tuck inder the rear axle?

Anyone measure if its actually 1"?
Should be obvious if you got both but I just wanna make sure beofre I try to get in on one of these things.

Ok, nevermind about the D bushings, Brutus had me confused.

Hey Brut, why did you decide to have your D bushings mounted hump side down?

That's how it says to do for the 22mm rears.

But my directions, and on tfm, have the d bushings hump side up tucked under the axle.

Mastin- I will snap a pic tommorrow of the rear bar for ya. The D bushings are pointed down, not up into the axle. i figured it didn't really matter since the end links hang lower anyway.

I had very little time to experiment since I had to get the bar in before work, but I first tried it with the D bushings facing up(into the axle) and it seemed like it would bind so I turned them over and mounted it like the picture above.

I too jacked one side then the other to replace the lower strut bolts with the black ones and mounted up the L brackets, then put the car down(make sure your e brake is off so your suspension doesnt bind up all weird) and put on the D bushings and U bolts(fit perfect with no bending!) then the endlinks. Piece of cake install, Took about a half hour.

oh...I did have to drill out the D bracket holes with a 3/8" drill bit to make the U bolts fit better but you may not have to...test fit the brackets on the u bolts before you are under the car to be sure

I never realized the D bushings were supposed to be the other way!

I will have to try and flip it to see if it fits but it looks like there is plenty of room from the picture.

Thanks for pointing that out mastin.

Hang em outside the axel...they definately did not fit well when I did mine the other day.

Oh yeah...the big black bolts are direct replacements for the lower strut mount. So you should definately jack up the car, and put it on a jack stand so that you can use your jack to hold up the axle thingy when it detatches from the struts.

Well well interesting,
They redesigned/made it a little shorter to fit without drilling.
So yeah I guess in this case the d bushings are hump side down.

Dang, now i have to get in one one so see if it makes any noticable diff.
Hope the gp is still going on.

I think you got your D-bushings upside down there. Th bar turns up in the front to fit inside the axel. I'll look at mine when I take my lunch break. But I'm pretty confident there supposed to be the other way.

Also, where is the sense of accomplishment if you don't have to drill?

I not so fondly remember sitting under the car with the drill for a good few minutes per side.

Guys, the hump goes up so it fits flush with the axle.

But ty all for the help and the pics

Hey Andrew Rodger the according to the instruction, the bolt head should be on top.

In all seriousness, the instruction does not say anything on the cylinder tube, I was thinking to put it next to the head, but from that pic, it makes more sense.

All in all very helpful and thanks again.
BTW thread jack all you want , so not to waste bandwith.

Yup,
Def have to get in one one of they newer styles to do a side by side.

It was fun drilling the holes those.
Really have to have sharp bits.
