if i was going to do my brakes can i use parts for a 99?
1) 95-04 suspension components ARE interchangeable.
yes they are
meaning what you use for something on a 96, you can use on a 2003 or a 99 or a 97or 98. Many of you ask this over and over. the answer is here.
well i knew that the suspension stuff was, im running 99 strut mounts on my 04...i just didnt know about the brake stuff
Front brakes are the same from 92-05. Rears are the same from 82-05.
i thought 03-05 had larger rear drums
i remember that autocrossin guy.... zach?..... he switched to newer rear drums on his sedan for this reason
correct me if i'm wrong
I've heard that too, and I remember the post you're talking about, but the only difference I nailed down 100% was that export models (made in US, shipped to Canada, Mexico, etc....this does not include cars made in Canada and sold in Canada) have larger wheel cylinders, drums and different backing plates. There are some part number differences along the way, but from everything I've, they all have the same dimensions.
03-05 have larger rear drums. But you could still take the whole brake assembly off and switch it onto an 82. Also fits 88-98 N-Bodies.
03+ have a completely different system of rear brakes.
They have the anchored shoe type setup. as opposed to the servo type system used on the early models.
It still botls on just the same, and exterior connections (brake lines & e-brake) connect the same.
You can actually use rotors from a second gen. on a third.
God bless America.
Yeah. The suspension is basically the same (minor tweeks here and there) since 1982 (that's older than some of the people around here!) and GM wonders why we're complaining about the suspension technology. And the new Cobolt (which replaced the Cavy) isn't much better, mostly just tweeks again.
