So I'm installing my new Tein S-Tech springs tomorrow. I just wanted to know if there are any tricks to make things easier when removing the strut assemblies? I know the fronts are just the two lower bolts and the three upper mount bolts. What about the rears? It looks like just one bolt through the bottom of the strut and one on top, but I see two other studs with something on them? What the procedure on removing the rears?
And I know all about swapping springs, how dangerous it is, blah blah. I have a wall mount macpherson strut compressor in my shop and I know how to use it, so I'm safe ;]
For the rear struts you will need a long extension and I think a 10mm socket. The two studs you are talking about are actually bolts that need to be removed in the upper wheel well.
thats all for the front and the rear is pretty much the same, the 3 bolts in the tower and the one lower one behind the drum
if you have stock springs on you'll need a spring compressor. you can either buy one for rent one from autozone (i think they rent out tools). i bought mine from sears, it was only 30 bucks. you have to compress the spring then you can take the mount off. what i do is get a wrench to hold the strut then use a socket to take the nut off. the wrench holds the strut so it doesnt turn when you take the nut off w/ the socket. once you have the mount off its pretty much just taking the bump stops off (which will have to be trimmed, usually cut in half) and then you can take the spring off
3 bolts/nut on both front and rear. Rear two bolts are from underneath.
Bottoms, front two big bolts, rear one big bolt. Use a sledge on the front bolts to get them out (not a hammer, it will dent them).
with lowering springs don't you need a spring compressor still?
You need the spring compressor to get everything apart safely. I have ruined bearings not using the spring compressor. Most lowering springs will not require the compressor, you can push hard enough to get everything together.

I know what I'm doing taking apart the struts.
That's kinda what I thought, with the rears... that's really weird... oh well, gotta do what I gotta do.
Thanks for the help guys, I didn't expect a response so fast. I'll have before and after pictures of my S-Techs tomorrow afternoon hopefully!
Wow! Thank you so much. That is
extremely helpful.
