Anyone know a CHEAP way to upgrade braking power? Can you take bigger calipersrotors off another vehicle? Not wanting to get to involved with this. Planning on adding a good bit of HP in the near future but want to work on stopping power and suspension first to handle the upgrades.
For the rear, there is disk adapters, to put on rear disk. For the front, there isn't another stock rotor/caliper setup to replace with... but you could go with some aftermarket disks (slotted or drilled) and some ceramic pads.
Aftermarket Slotted rotors and performance pads will go a long way. $200-$500
Next up is the FNW-Front swap, although that changes the bolt pattern, so it's definately not for everyone. $300-$700
Then comes the BBKs (Big Brake Kits). Willwook, SSBC, Baer and the like. $900+
Yeah....wasnt' really looking to spend that much. Maybe $150. Was hoping there might be bigger calipers you could get at the junkyard off another car. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thanks
not all good upgrades can be done cheaply

Exactly.
I myself would get aftermarket drilled/slotted rotors, at the very least. You can also replace your regular rubber brake lines with steel braided lines.
If you want to put some effort into it, you can use just about any larger caliper you want. It would mount similarly to the Wilwood (I only used Wilwood here, since I've never really looked at how other big kits go together), with an adapter plate. Then you just have to find the right rotor, have it redrilled to fit (if its not already 5x100) and put it all together.
I think either the N body swap CTS mentioned, or the H body swap would be your best bet though. Parts are pretty cheap if you search around for them (I paid about $100 for the yard parts on mine), and most of the aftermarket companies make pads/rotors for both swaps.

and not all people has money trees in their backyard like you do!
You can buy a nice set of zinc plated drilled slotted rotors and ceramic pads for around $150. And that will give you some better stopping power for those upgrades. Then maybe you should look into a rear disc conversion for later on. Save your money and buy it piece by piece.
Slotted rotors, ceramic pads, and braided stainless lines. It'll all cost less than $300 and quite frankly, it'll provide plenty of braking power for anything you'll likely do.

If you can't afford to do brakes or suspension right you shouldn't be doing them at all.
Gravana regularly has specials for rotors pads and stainless steel lines that you can get in a package deal.
the powerslots with hawk hp pads make a very big difference.

Where can you get GOOD zinc plated cross-drilled rotors AND ceramic pads for $150?
I found plated slotted (not cross-slotted, which is more) for $150, plus pads at $60, totals $210. And then add shipping to that.
Don't cheap out on suspension or brakes, you'll regret it later.
^ ebay is one place. You can get a set of front zinc plated slotted/drilled rotors for $100 or less. My friend has had a 72$ pair of those on his car for 8 months and they are still in great shape. Just used ceramic pads.
Gravana sells everything. they have the BRAKE ROTOR-PAD-LINE COMBO: Powerslot Rotors for $259.99. or if you want only the rotors they have several types from brembo to baer. between $140 and $150. I find it cheap for the improvement you can get. or serch ebay.
Just because it's zinc plated doesn't mean it's good. Popping holes in a rotor doesn't automatically increase performance. It has to be carefully engineered. He might have got good rotors off eBay cheap, but that's rare. Most of the cheap stuff one eBay counts among the CEC (Cheap eBay Crap). I wouldn't call that an performance upgrade, rather it's ascetically pleasing.
Go to www.turbotechracing.com, pick up a set of baer decela rotors, and some HAWK pads, it will run around $200 even. I did it and it brakes a hell of a lot better. He may even get you a discount. you can also get the russel brake lines for about $90 if you want it to feel even better. Talk to Aaron, he is a great guy to deal with, EXCELLENT customer service and an all around great guy to deal with.
Thats actually not too bad. You say it did make a noticable difference? Worth the bang for the buck...
God yes, one of the best investments ive ever made, the pads are virtually dustless as well. my rims dont even really show the dust at all.
Great advice and help from everyone, thanks! I can spare spending a little more if it makes the difference. Sounds like it does for you all so, thanks again.
Even though the GP is over, we will still offer the GP price on the Baer Rotors for $114.99 and HAWK pads for $54.99. Email us for the discount code.
