Just wondering what settings you guys have been using on your D Specs to give you the best ride.....im currently at 4 front 3 rear....im dropped on Sportlines.....the ride is good but it hits hard on bumps....any suggestions to the bump problem also?
Sporty <------------------------------> Comfortable
Pick one, you can't have all of both.
The car handling awsome is at the expense of hitting hard on bumps. Going soft over bumps is at the expense of handling. Having a good set of struts (like you have) lets you adjust between the two. Many people set them softer when they're just tooling around, and harder when they know they will be driving agressively. I just leave it harder all the time.
Well what i meant is the adjustment positions....i did have them set on 3 all around but the ride was worse when i started fooling around setting the front and rear differently the ride got better was just wondering what settings gave the best ride for others.
my friends rode nice at 5 turns out from full hard , then i set it to 4 turns front and 3 1/2 turns , it rode nice for me , but he said it was a bit hard still , and was going to soften it some
he has a 97 sunfire vert , with the prokit
Call me a softy, but 6.5 in rear, 6 in front
Disclaimer: No one cares what you think about street racing. Mmmk?
Softy!
I am running the same as you, I just try and avoid the big bumps. I have an hour one way trip to work, and I have found that the 4 front and 3 back ins't bad, but if I go for a longer haul (anything over 2 hours) I typically set them up as 7 front/ 6 rear.
As stated earlier it is what you want. I am getting ready to soften the rears up as with winter conditions deteriorating as they have been the understerr might be a nice thing to have....
I have mine set at 5 all around. Seems to work well for daily driving to and from work and around town.
i think i have mine at 5 in the front and 4 in the rear.. its a very comfortable ride but once again it still hits are over the big bumps.. but just slow downa bit for the big ones.. not too bad then : )

^^^same here. I've just learned to adjust the way I drive due to the firmness of the ride.
Soft ride for me: 6 turns from hard in the front, 6.5 rear and it keeps acceptable handling too. Good handling for passing (on highways) and cornering around my place: 5 front 5 rear. Has tested 3 and 3 and it has a very aggresive handling but for me it's to harsh for daily driving.
3 front, 3 rear. I had it 4/3, but didn't like the handling so much. maybe now that I have different rims and tires, it'll handle better. I'll experiment with it the next few days.

I keep mine pretty stiff at all times. Its just easier if its already hard.
(wow that sounds bad)
Ive tried alot of different combinations, Right now i am at 2 turns out from full firm. Its a harsh ride but the handling is da sh!t. Ive tried it on full soft, and thats the setting that i use for road trips 2 hours or more.

On a side note here for you guys with the D-specs...
I'm going to go and get these installed on my car Wednesday morning. In the manual, it says that a good place to start for adjusting your D-specs is 5 full turns from the factory firm setting. I understand how to adjust them, but I was wondering if you guys "broke-in" the struts at a softer setting, or is all the talk about letting the struts break in necessary? If you did break them in, what "softness" did you use?
Just want to make sure I take care of the struts and don't abuse them early on.
Thanks for the input guys,
Graham

They're set at firm in the box. I wasn't sure where they started when I got them installed, so I ended up driving them at full hard for about 45-50km on the way home and then to work. Once I got home I read the manual, and softened them to 5 turns, and left it there for a while. Haven't had a problem. Anyways I wouldn't suggest going against what they say even though mine are fine - better safe that sorry.
Thank you for answering a question that I've had for a very long time!!!!
Hey guys, this may seem like a very stupid question, but one I just have to ask. I am lowered on Sportlines and I am ordering the D-Spec struts next Friday. I am VERY new to learning about suspension and I have a burning question that may seem elementary (I apologize in advance).
- Once I put on the new D-Specs' and I "stiffin or soften" the ride, does the ride "height" get adjusted also?
Thank you.
