Any struts/shocks w/ Sportslines w/o mods?
Monday, November 28, 2005 4:26 PM
I don't know much about suspension, and what I'm wondering is: What shocks/struts to buy with sportlines? I want some that don't require modification to install. I heard yellow's have to be modified in some way. thanks.

you have to cut the stock front struts to put in the inserts for konis. but the tockico d-specs, they bolt right up and are supposed to be able to hold the sportline drop.

You don't cut the strut, you need to drill out the mount. The d specs are full bolt in's.

im pretty sure the yellows are the same as the reds except for the external damping. if thats the case, then yes you have to cut the strut above the knuckle and insert the strut. koni only makes insert for the fronts for our cars. imo if your going to spend the money, id get yellows over d-specs

I hope you guys mean cut the strut mount and not the strut itself, I know I would not spend 600 bux on something I am going to cut up. Get the d specs.

they are right, u do have to cut the front struts to slide the koni insert into. you also have to drill out the strut mount for the shaft to fit through. for a great explanation look here Clicky

this is my sig

FireFighter: You obviously don't know what you're talking about. You're wrong.

For Koni Reds or Yellows you cut the stock strut in half, insert the Koni part in half of the old strut and bolt it all back together. It's not that big a deal if you have a working set of tools. You do not cut the strut mount, you do have to drill it out slightly larger. There are directions posted above.

D-Specs can handle the sportline drop, and are direct bolt-ons, no cutting, no drilling. They aren't quite as nice as Koni's, but a comparable second.

Thanks for the great info guys, really appreciate it. Sounds like D-Specs is a good option. I'm going to check to see if any of the "J-body.org dealers" have them on their sites.

thank you. i know the red you have to cut the strut above the knuckle like i said. i was sure about the yellows because i never had them but i believe the only difference between the 2 is the yellows can be adjusted w/o takin' them off the car. koni only makes a full swap for the rear and only inserts in the front.

its not hard at all. all you do is drill a small hole in the bottom of the strut to release the gas and oil in the strut. once its empty, you just cut the top off above the knuckle and slip in the koni.

I though you guys meant you cut the koni strut, not the stock one. My bad.

nah the koni is only an insert. it sucks that you have to cut the stock strut but its well worth it

D-Specs are great, still support my decision of them over the konis 100%.

i have a koni sport suspension kit for sale with all of the work done for you. just bolt them all up and your done. except for one of the rears which the upper mount went bad so you will have to do some work on your stock mount and assemble that one. email me if your interested.

its around 1" in the front and 2" rear. use my sig and it will show you a pic. for some reason it comes up really small but you might be able to blow it up.
