i race cavaliers in a mini stock division as most of you know we have been running the 2.2 ohv and custom making a distributor and intake manifold to fit the rules saying we need a carbeurator and distributor ya know. a long time ago when i was in a different division i ran a sunbird with the ohc but we had a problem with blowing holes thorugh the head if it got over 230 degrees.
is the ohc engine strong enough to run in this new division, i could build an intake to put a carb on it but can i run the distributor without running a computer. i remeber from my other race car the ohc seems like it had a lot more power and if this is true its what i want. maybe i could run a turbo motor forged bottom end with a n/a shaved head and make some decent power? if anyone knows anything help me out
I know one thing, you would lose a little bit of power with a turbo bottom end because of the lower C/R, unless you run a turbo... but i imagine that would be a mess with a carb lol..
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
OHC seems to have more power? Maybe compared to the 86 and older versions of the OHV, but after GM redesigned the head for 87 things got much better.
There are bunches of parts for the OHC engine if you look around. That engine is used in Australia, South America, and Europe for racing. Look for the 8V versions since you'll likely be flagged for running the 16V head.
Personally I'd stay with the 2.0 engine. If you look in the performance forum there's a thread on 1.7 or ls1 rockers which has a link to GM's old 2.0 race engine build guide. Who knows, it may have an idea or two for ya.

cant run more rocker ratio because we have a cam lift rule of .450 i just thought that in my sunbird race car it felt a lot faster than the same car when we swapped in a 2.2 ohv
