I'm asking this for a colleague, since I don't have a second gen. He has a 94 Cavalier coupe that needs tires. They are the stock rims. He also has a new set of tires from another car that he could swap to save some money.
The OEM Cav tire is 185/75/14 while the tires he wants to swap on there are 185/60/14. Will these work? It means a lower sidewall, right?
Thanks everyone.
yes lower sidewall they will work but your speedo might b off
MIGHT be off is an understatment.
the speedo will be way off. 185/75R14's arent that expensive, but can be harder to find. 195/70R14's are alot easier to find and might even be cheaper if you shop around. also, the speedo wont be out then.
tell him not to mount those 185/60R14's on there... nothing good will come of it.

You could go to the stock tire size that is on my Sunbird and keep the speedo accurate, 215/60 r 14.
the tires will be 2.2" shorter and the speedo read 9.58% to fast. i would highly recomend against doing this. tires that small are cheap enough, worst case go to the local junkyard and buy a set of used tires.
215/60/14 is a bit big for will likly be to big for the current rims. they are still a bit shorter than whats on it anyways, still making the speedo be out.
Thanks everyone. I will let him know its not a good idea. He just put them on his son's Geo storm and the motor finally went so they're junking the car. He was trying to get some use out of them, but I think he'll have to break down and pay the $120 bucks for a cheap set for the Cavalier!
Thanks as always,
120 bucks for a cheap set of tires? WOW! I would LOVE to find a set of tires for my car that cheap.
I use to run 225-60R14's on my 89.they fit nicely on the rims.
