New guy here looking for encouragement.

Ya so I started shopping for a car for my sister. I was looking through cardomain and found a lil 90 sunbird gt turbo. I was also in the market for a daily so I could put my firebird down long enough to start swapping in the 383 LT1. So I wound up getting the car and fell in love with it. I get as many questions about it as my firebird. After driving it for a 3 months or so things got interesting.
I was driving came to a stop at a light and the motor shut off. I attempt to restart the car and it cranks but wont turn back over. I try a second time then shut it off and push it into a near by parking lot. The gauge cluster is on, and the key isn’t even in the car. I pop the hood and the smell of gas is dominate. After getting the car back home the starter is burnt up, and the motor barely turns over with a ratchet and extension. Here is where I get worried and think it seized up. At this point I completely tear down the motor. I had ordered a crank, rods, pistons, water pump, oil pump, looking to do a overhaul cuz I liked the car so much. I start getting all my parts in when I get the head back, I sent it to a shop to have it machined, only to have it come back with 4 cracks in it. So now as I sit I have every part brand new to go back together but the head, and the block is my own. I still don't know why the motor stopped because no bearings were spun. I need some encouragement to keep on going lol, now I have to add a head to my long list of parts. I have tons of pics of the car, and the pulling out of the motor and it all apart and all the parts if anyone is interested. Sorry just had to vent a little there.

Man, that's an easy fix. You can find those heads everywhere. Sunbirds had them, Grand Am's, etc. I know a lot of junkyards here in Dallas that have tons of them.

I pulled one for a friend in CA, had it rebuilt here. The sad thing is when he put the new head on, it raised the compression so much that the rings started leaking. The bottom end was to old to take the head.

I got a good deal on a head for mine on Ebay last year. Less than 200 dollars for one that had been completely redone. Mine is now smoking, so I need to rebuild the engine.
