hey everyone. I have a question about my temp guage.
My car's temp gauge never reaches the center of the gauge. My car has the temps in degrees celcius.
So in the red, it say 125, and at the bottom it says 40. The temp stays a little below between the middle of 40 and centre temp which is 82.5, where my needle usually stays a little below=61.25 degress celcius.
Today i let the car idle until the fan came on and the fan came on supposedly at 62 degrees celicious.
The car idles fine, the heat works sooo good, and the fan came on at about the right time i think if you don't look at the gauge.
Does your gauge act like this? Is this common? I think the car is fine, just the gauge is inacurate. Sorry for the spelling and the confusing text in advance. couldn't find a pic.

I think your car is working OK.
In both our '93 2.2's the temp gauge normally reads on the first mark to the right of 40 C (61.25).
This is probably the thermostat temp of 91 deg C/195 deg F---they both settle to this first mark, when warmed up and driving down the road.
If the needle goes straight up it's about to overheat/that's when the fan comes on, this should be at 106 deg C/220 deg F--- by the book., .
You said :- [The car idles fine, the heat works sooo good, and the fan came on at about the right time i think if you don't look at the gauge.]
The gauge is not that accurate, more of an indicator. If you wanted to check it you could disconnect the sender and connect in a resistance of 63 ohms--the gauge should read 125 C (With ignition ON )
APPROX 1365 ohms for 40 C (Note the book says approx---less gauge accuracy at the lower temps. (The sensor resistance INCREASES as the temperature DECREASES)

thanks for the reply alont.
Sounds like my car is ok.

i have the same thing wrong with mine it is a 94 2.2 and it never reaches above 1/4 of the gauge
well, my fan stopped coming on.
Doesn't turn on with a/c, or when temp goes up. How much do you guys think it will cost if i brought the car to a mechanic to fix it. I don't have a soldering gun, and im not that confortable doing the manual override switch.
If anyone from the org lives near toronto, on, and wants to make a little money, you can pm me too, im getting insurance on my car in a week or so. So l'll have to fix it quickly after i get insurance.
