they make a dual friction for every other sunbird ........is there one that will work for this car???.....thay have them for the 1.8L 5 speed ( they dont specify a turbo application )......they also offer the 1988 2.0L NON TURBO....................this is killing me.......anyone?

the n/a cars and the older turbo cars do not have the HM282 trans that you have in a turbo 2.0. Compleatly different transmission and therefore cluth assemblies.
Those clutches are junk anyhow. The best clutches you can get for this car are from clutchnet. I've tried several others. I have their 6 puck sprung "street" clutch, with a modified 50% over stock pressure plate. I belive the part number is in my registry. Call them up, and place the order direct. It was exspensive, but it is SO worth it. Every other clutch I've had slipped under the power or launches. This one just grabs and holds, but it isn'pt so aggresive that it is impossible to feather or is full of chatter. It chatters very little at all, and slips enough to daily drive or launch. It's awesome :tup:

so the guys who say CF is @!#$ ahve u even used there clutch before? i always see people bad mouthing products but then u find out they have never used tehm first hand, its allways ohh my buddy says it sucks lol i drive mine hard and put alot of pulls on the track with it with no issues, still grabs hard and throws u in ur seat

Ya........pretty lame eh.........I dont think centerforce clutches are bunk.......you can tell there is a massive difference in quality compared to OEM crap. Ive talked to 4 guys who use centerforce and 3 of them run 10's and 1 made it into the 9's..........any clutch that can withstand that punishment is a good clutch. Ill probably end up using a centerforce if I can find one......in the mean time.....I havent found ONE performance aftermarket clutch for my car.........
I had a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch on my 3.1. Totally sucked. It was about on level with a good stock BWD replacement clutch.

centerfoce clutches arent junk, just the ones for our cars. the big thing with the centerforce clutches is the weights on the fingers of the pressure plate, the more rpm you get, the more they get pulled out and the higher the clamping load is. this is great for pedal feel, it allows an almost stock pedal feel with increased clamping power, its a great design. ive installed a few into mustangs, diesel trucks, and even a tow truck.
now why are they junk for our cars??? well, if you look in the bellhousing, you will notice that the release bearing face hardley sticks passed the detent cover (the black plug). there is no room for the weights on the pressure plate, so they just leave them out. basicly with the dual friction, you get the DF disk with a basicly stock pressure plate, and the dual friction disk needs the higher clamping load to work right, so you end up with a basicly stock clutch. some people have great luck with them in j-bodies, but i think they would have the same luck with a quality oem replacment. some people also have bad luck with them, and those are the guys putting out some good power.
btw: spec c lutches also makes stages 1-5 for a turbo sunbird.

ya it sucks that they removed them for teh clutches in Js, but mine is alot better tehn a OEM replacement IMO anyone who takes a ride in my car is surprised with how well it grips........i only got it cause i got a brand new 1 with the TO bearing for $230CDN

Are theyr any other clutches for my turbo bird?........I cant find one from clutchnet.......Spec sounds good....but pretty expensive and there isnt a dealer where I am.....centerforce apparently doesnt have one for my car...............................any other suggestions?

This is the opinion you need to listen too.. Curtis is pushing way more torque thru his clutch then nearly anyone on here.. on slicks...
Anyways, I take it you didn't look at my registry eh? the part number for the clutch is there. It's 67002. That's the part number for the 6 puck SPRUNG clutch disc, from their OLD site. When I ordered , I had them make a 50% over stock stronger pressure plate, which they reccomended to me without me even asking. This is essential as it keeps the disc pressed against the flywheel tight enough to let it do it's job. In addition it greatly improves the feel of the clutch. The pressure plates are hi quality oem ones that they modify.
Their web page SUCKS now a days. I dont' know why they changed it. it's more flashy, but they removed a ton of content, including our cars! Take a look at this OLD version of thier page: (all you have to do is click the "view old site" link)

You'll see it there. It seems the old part numbers were redone as I can't find it on their new page. They also don't list the sunbird anymore. I don't know why, but when you call you should complain.

Um, it was a pretty penny. I remember it being more then I wanted to spend, but not a tottaly unreasonable amount. I wanna say somewhere around 350-400 for the whole kit shipped? It's still worth it and far cheaper then some clutch kits I've seen. If you're unhappy with it I would be extremely suprised.
buddy......everyone has quit making clutch pressure plates for this car.........EVEN CLUTCHNET......I sitll bought theyr 6 puck disk tho......Im going to just use a stock pressure plate
