I was just wondering how i can cut down the weight of my car for free? Just by like cutting @!#$ out that aint important. I only need 3 seats. BTW i have an 89 sunbird LE with the 2.0 ohc but the engine is shot and out but i was wondering what engines will bolt up to my 5 speed tranny. I'll try to post pics of my custom shifter monday. thanx

I was going to replace my engine as well (not shot, just wanted more power out of it), and I think someone told me the biggest you could go is the 2.8L from the earlier 2nd-gen cavaliers.

I'm pretty sure most of the 2nd gen cav/beretta/sunbird motors are all compaitable. If this is true, try to find an Oldsmobile Achieva (I think years 1988 to 1993) or another car with a quad 4 HO motor. If not, try to find a turbo sunbird motor, and finally if you cant find that, then just try to find a simple 2.8 or 3.1L. And you're not just limited to 2.8 or 3.1's, if you're willing to cut firewalls and make custom motor mounts, I'm pretty sure you could swap out the motor and trans for alot of different things. I mean come on, some guy slapped in an integra motor in a smart car (I think it was an integra motor), and those are some damn small cars.

Nothing will bolt up to the 2.0 OHC trans. Just the 2.0 OHC.

The biggest engine that will fit in the bay (without major work) is the 3400. Pretty much all it requires it one custom mount bracket. Any other 1st/2nd gen engine will bolt right in using all factory parts.

A whole lot, but don't let that stop you. You'd have to change everything from the ECM to the axles probably, whole new drivetrain.
