i got 89,000 on the cav.i dont know if the person before me ever changed it.i just wanted to what fluid does everyone use and should i change it. some people say that when you change the fluid thats when the tranny starts acting up.i had the got the cav 72,000 so i dont know what was done before. thanks in advance
I use the merconV stuff since it exceeds dexron 3 specs, and I get it as a synthetic blend.
manual - GL5 75W80
AUTO - Dex is called for but mercon V is good...
i use mobil 1 synthetic trannie fluid in mine
Ii have an auto. so its call dex and the other mercon v
juswow, so much wrong in this post.
if its a 5 speed, gm syncromesh. anything thicker causes exes wear on the syncros.
auto- dextron 3/mercon. DO NOT put mercon 5 oil in, it isnt compatable with dextron 3/mercon fluid. mercon 5 is an oil designed specificly for fords 97+, and shouldnt be used in gm vehicles. its also more expensive. you also cant use regular mercon in mercon 5 aplications, not compatable.
dextron 3/mercon is what you need. also, dont forget to change the filter aswell. you should be able to go to a parts store and get a filter/gasket kit for it, or else go to a local tranny shop.

Sorry, but you are wrong. Check this out
Exxon/AAMCO

yea ok, i guess i dont know @!#$ all about tranny fluid, seeing as im a transmission tech. you know, i only deal with this stuff every day.
in the real world, (not in the world of Aamco) mercon v in non ford applications is not a good idea. seen it done, can cause chattering.
I have been running it at every change for about 80,000 miles now, and I have absolutely no problems.
can u pick these fluids up at local parts store
You can get them at Autozone.
