Pully Issue

I have a 93 VL 2.2 4cyl engine... Whenever the car is cold started, if i try to turn the steering wheel to the extreme left or extreme right the one of the pullys start shreaking... but once i give it some gas, or once it warms up it wont do it...

i also noticed that when im in gear and get between 3000 - 3200 RPMs i hear it shreaking also (and this does it everytime, cold or warm), but not above or below that RPM and not when im out of gear and reving...

I wanna say power stearing pully... the belt is like 6 months old, and i know the difference between belt whining and the metal to metal grinding sound a pully makes....

None of the local auto part stores can get the pully, and im not getting one from a junk yard cause that could potentially put me right back in the same place... this means i have to go to the dealer if i want to get the part locally... so before i spend an @$$ load of $$$$ on dealer markup, i'd like a second opinion or other alternatives to try... (and that way too i can pull the belt off once... do every diagnostic i can think of then... so i only have to pull the belt off once)

thanks

Sounds like a weak belt tensioner to me. At this point the belt is probably bad too. Pulleys usually don't go "bad". Just a suggestion, Good Luck.

Belt tensioner bearing is worn out causing the pulley to sit sideways a little. Fix it now before it starts throwing the belt.

um, check your power steering fluid. the pump will make a wining noise simular to a belt squeek when you are on the steering locks.

i know the power stearing fluid is fine... i flush it every 30k, and just did about 10k miles ago (at 150,000)

The tensioner is only 18 months old... but i'll look in to that...

If i spray lithium grease anywhere on the PS pully (Not nessiceraly on the belt track but also in the middle where it connects with the PS Pump) , the squeel stops... even at extreme lefts and rights... but that only lasts for maybe an hour or two..

thanks for the advice... imma look at both (tensioner/belt and pully) when im at work tomorrow...
