Well I got my Z24 kit off an 89 and a 90 Z24 at the yard also got the FG hood and everything else Z24 to turn my winter beater into a head turner. My question is how do I get the rear off in a nice way? At the yard I basically destroyed the rear of the Z to get it off by ripping the things under the tail light right off. However I dont want to do that with my car, how do i avoid this? I see there are some clips any specific tool to get them off?
Plans for my 1993 VL - Z24 kit and hood, all body work, prime, wet sand, paint orange body (Havent decided but will be burnt) new silver paint on Z24 bottoms, wet sand and make one hell of a winter ride, and summer one when I break my vert. Gotta say I am having fun with my VL, 2nd gens kick ass and the 2nd gen Z is way better than a 3rd.
Possible plans for next year may be a motor swap, 3400 v6 if it isnt that hard as I hear. What tranny bolts up? I dont know how much longer I can take the 2.2, how bad is the wiring?
Stay cool all 2nd gen tuners, best value and best looking!

Wow!! Its so strange to see a 3rd gen owner get into a 2nd gen so much and actually enjoy it!! Welcome to the club!!
The pieces under the tail lights come off easily.. take the tail lights out (three thumb screws in the trunk) then you'll see where the piece has a little self threading nut and there is a nut inside the trunk also.
The 3400 swap is the best one going at the moment..
Since your car is a 4cyl to start with it makes it a little more involved but still really easy. Your best bet is to find a junked/wrecked Z24 for parts and set it right beside your car and start swapping. You are going to need the wiring, radiator, gauge cluster, and ecm at the very least. The 2.2 tranny will bolt to the 3400 fine but most people don't go this route (especially if its an auto)
Most people look for the 5 speed tranny out of a Z24 (its the Getrag 282 and in the later years a NVGT550 (same tranny just different clutch throwout setup))
The Z24 trannys also come with the stronger axels and the equal length half shafts to cut down on torque steer.
You'll need to make or buy the front motor mount bracket for the 3400 to bolt in, all of the other mounts will bolt to the 3400 fine.
I also suggest you swap in a Z24 steering rack while you have the engine out and its easy to access, the Z24 rack is 2.5 turns instead of the base model 3.5 turns.
Don't forget some nice Eibach springs, energy suspension bushings, and KYB struts all around to finish the car off. If you don't have a rear sway bar make sure you grab that off the Z24 also.
have a look at www.domesticcrew.com for all of your 3400 into a Jbody questions.
4 bolts on each side of the trunk, 3 or 4 on each side on the inside of the bumper (depends based on god knows what) and a couple on the inner sides of the rear bumper...to get the little plastic filler panel off between tails and bumper, 1self-threading screw on the inside and a locking washer on the outside.
Well here is the only pic I have uploaded of the car. It just has my stock Z Vert rims on it.
I know I am just putting a Z24 kit on it but hey its fun. Even though I hate clone cars at least i am not just putting on some emblems. Should look good orange and silver.
I will get a pic of it tonight after I get the Z kit on, starting at 4pm when I get out of work. It will be 4 different colors though, green body, blue door, red front, silver hood and rear, lol.
thanks guys, and I am seriously thinking about doing the 3400 swap. When i get my Vert all done, just gotta put some Koni yellows in it and water injection, then I can mess more with the VL.

Okay, I got the front and rear on, since the Z24 front was off an 89 and I have a 93 VL I had to take all of the front honeycomb off and I will have to cut a little off the rear. Tomorrow morning I will get the sides, has anyone ever molded the bottom side skirt, the one on the door? How does that look? Thanks for all the help guys, looks sweet/
