I have a 91 Cav with a 3.1 5spd. Well it wont rev over 3500k without breaking up. It has no power at all after that. It idles and runs fine as long as you dont rev it hard. It just started it a few days ago and im thinking fuel filter? pump? i dunno. Theres no codes thrown or anything. I have a full extra parts car so gimme ur suggestions.
Well have you ever replaced the fuel filter?
i had that happen before and it was one of the coils going bad.
not to jack the thread but would you b intrasted in selling the engine and all i would need to drop it in a 93 cavi that had the 2.2 in it
also depending on what kind of tranny it is imight b intrasted in the 5 speed as well (the 2.2 is a man but ill need the stronger tranny with my plans )
once agen sorry to jack the thread

I think im gonna take the coil pack and wires off my other car and switch them. I bought the car a few months ago from an older lady so im not really sure if shes ever changed the filter. Im gonna go ahead and change it, its cheap and easy. thx for the suggestions. Ill keep you guys posted.
plugs, plug wires, coil pack and fuel filter have all been changed. No luck..
only way i can think to check for a clogged cat would be to drop the down pipe and try revvin it up. Its a bit loud, but wont hurt anything if you dont leave it running for more than a couple minutes at a time.
check for a crimped fuel line, it seems liek your fuel is cutting out. also check your injectors.
If your still having problems with the Cav., look at the egr valve and passages. Sounds that it is not seating all the way. Best way to check it is to start the car and push up slightly on the valve. The idle should change(drop) immediately with the slightest movement.
Hope this helps.

After all that i would def have to say you have a ground problem. Check all the bellhousing grounds. Pretty sure you have 2 one on the right of the cross over pipe and one lower closer to the starter. I had same problem on a 2.2L and a broken ground wire was all that it needed. Be sure to pull the loom back and look @ it, check the ends and the connections. Just focus on ALL ground wires.
last time that happened to me it was a bad plug wire that i got in a new set from AutoZone...
Check the wires going to your ignition controll module.. you might also wanna pull it off and have the zone test it... make sure they do the test about 5-10 times so it gets nice and warm...
could also be a bad crankshaft position sensor
