ok, a buddy of mine has a 89 z24 2.8 and his only mod is a 3A Racing upswept muffler.... i have the SOHC 94 2.0 and i raced him and beat him today... we raced a couple of times cause i was very suprised that my sunbird was able to take him. my car was running average and he said his was running great... we raced from a stop up to 55 and i was about a car length in front of him, we raced from about a 30 mph roll and i blew him away by about 2 1/2 car lengths, and then we went from around 45-50 up to about 70 and he was only a fender length behind me... we have ran eachother before and he beat me, but i also had a set of wheels and a tool box in the car... (this time i didnt have any weight besides me and my subs) i am so curious as to how i won??? my car was not running great and his was.. just a little freaked out.. do the little mods that i have done really make that big of a difference to be able to beat a z? if someone could tell me what the z's run (3.1's and 2.8's) i would apriciate it, also what a 2.2 and a 2.0 are supposed to run... is anyone else confused by this????

Couldnt tell ya, my 94 LE Sedan lost to everything it raced, so i dunno, but i do know mine was very very slow... Course i would lose to a 98 Cav Z24, irony is that i own a 98 Sunfire GT now..
His car has a major problem.. the 2.0 NA sunbirds were basically the slowest of all Jbodies.
mine runs low 18's just to let ya all know.... yeah i know its slow....

then i must agree, his must have been messed up or something, even my beat to hell 88 z24 with 250k on her pulled a 16.6 in the 1/4. My friends 3.1 bird 5 speed hits high 15's.

My 92 na with custom exhaust and custom cai and a ported head ran a 10.2 in the 1/8
. yes they are slow but the littlest of mods change it a lot

^^^i can vouch for that. a little head and portmatching work goes a long way on a 2nd gen 2.2 there is a lotta power available in a 2.2 head. if u port it right, u can have quite a little screamer. especially w/ oversized valves
