Best source for a factory rear sway bar?
Saturday, September 10, 2005 4:05 AM
I'm looking for a factory rear sway bar for a 93 Cavalier. I must have looked at 50 2nd gen Cavaliers and Sunbirds at junkyards and none of them had the rear bars.

Are any other cars interchangable, and also are they a completely unbolt and bolt onto another car part... or will it require fabrication?

TIA for any thoughts.

Bars off Berettas, Corsica, older Grand Am, olds calias (Nbody) will fit.
The jbodies to be looking for are Z24s and sunbird GTs.

I bet its only about $35-45 dollars brand new at the dealer. I know the front 30mm bar was only that much.

Yep, look at the Z24's. I just pulled one off a 90 Z24 only to find it was rusted underneath the rubber bushings it mounted between on the axle ends. I'm searching for a nice one and I'm sure I'll find it.

Good luck searching the local yards. That's your best bet.

Found one!

Its actually pretty clean, and it came off an 89 Buick Skylark. Now to go put it on when the rain breaks for a few minutes...

Are those still stocked at the dealer? Anyone have the part #?

Front-
22mm- 22596725 (only fits 4 cyl 88-94) ($63)
28mm- 22596727 (only fits 4 cyl 88-94) ($61)
28mm- 14076613 (only fits 6 cyl 88-93) (updated #)
28mm- 22596731 (only fits 6 cyl 94) (not found)
30mm- 14076614 (only fits 6 cyl 88-93) (updated #)
30mm- 22596732 (only fits 6 cyl 94) ($63)

Rear-
19mm- 22536401 (fits all 88-94) (not found)
21mm- 22536402 (fits all 88-94) (not found)

Keep in mind that you can use a 6 cyl bar on a 4 cyl and vice versa, as long as you have the exhaust rebent to clear the bar. The part # differences between 88-93 and 94 are just to update the number. You can use a 94 bar on an 88-93 car no problem.

I just did a quick GMPD check for these numbers. I guess the prices have gone up. When I wrote not found, that means GMPD can't get it, but it doesn't mean the dealer can't.

I have all the bushing part numbers also, but since they're available aftermarket (both performance and stock grade) I didn't write them all out.
