Thats definately NOT worth fixing at ALL.
If you wanted to buy it for $100 and drive it into the ground then it would be worth it if it runs alright. You may want to check into what it would take to get it on the road too. I know here you have to get an inspection for anything over 15 years old and they can be pretty strict. Luckily we dont have emissions or anything. It looks like that thing would take alot to pass inspection up here. Im sure things are different there though.
No matter what you decide, good luck. Let us know how it goes.
Wow, thats bad.

I would really stay away with something that has that much rust. Also a mechanic can do nothing about a dirty injector- they have to be sent off to a professional cleaner.
-Take a grinder to the undercarriage
-Degrease engine/underside of car
-Get new fenders, trunk lid, maybe doors
-Flush ALL fluids
-Give it a coat of paint
And it oughta be good to go...
i would stay away. it is way to rusty for restoration and i dont think it would even be worth 200. the bodys junk, the frame is junk, in that engine pic there is a funnel so maby it was ran low on oil? i wouldnt do it, i only paid 900 for mine is in way better shape then that, if that has a decent oem body kit you should try to get it but the pics didnt really show the exterior.
is it from florida? if it is why is there so much rust, i am from iowa where it is snow and salt and i have lots less, but then again mine is a 94. but still if thats from florida, it should be a lot cleaner.

that cars not bad at all... in fl that thing would go another 15 years before rust got to be too much of a pain if you got a decent set of fender protectors.
battery trays rust pretty easy... all it takes is a spill and it will rust almost as bad as if your radiator cap is leaking on your motor mounts.....
fender is the worst of it but front fender is a pretty easy fix....
could use a coat of paint but that can be done for pretty cheap if you could find a garage to spray it in
the engine bay is pretty darn clean i mean the open circle of the strut tower shows less rust than mine does...
wicked
Uh yeah that car doesnt look bad.. You are showing pics of the rear axel and strut/shocks. This stuff rusts of course but if you are going to be fixing it you'll be p utting on new struts / shocks anyway. And the rear axel was never even painted from the factory so they stay covered in surface rust.. nothing a wire brush and a can of black spray paint wont fix. the inner fenders look like they just need some new undercoating sprayed on them.
The rust on the batteyr tray comes from a leaking battery that sat there too long.. once again., wire brush and spray paint.
the real rust problem areas on a 2nd gen are:
the bottoms of the doors
the front of the driver side rocker panel
the cowl area where the wiring harness goes into the dash
the front of the inner rear fenders
the rear shock towers
its really no that bad, like pezed sayed the rear axle asn @!#$ always has surface rust on it...only thing that would need replaced is teh front fender it seems,u could probably even out the door taht was hittin hte fender....its a fixer upper if u ask me as all the rust jsut seems to be surface rust and would be gone with some 40 grit paper or a grinder if ur lazy lol
FDP 62MM TB, FFP Performance Chip, FFP Underdrive Pully, WAI, Hi Flow Cat, 2.5" Catback, Functional Ram Air Hood, Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch
i'd bite on it hard...
you freaking 3rd gen guys don't know what your talking about. all the rusted area's are easy fixes... most of them are bolt on replacements.
...
ok to anyone who says to dust that car HA@!@HAAHAHAHA!AH!HAH!A!HA!HA!AH!A!HA!H!A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
look at my sb, i've put all of... oh i dunno 250 into it, and it started out in a HELL of alot rougher shape, mind you i don't have a paint job and my interior work calculated yet, but thats got nothing to do with inspections and body work, and hell, that thing doesn't even look like it needs body work!!!! just a little roughing evercoat into any pre-rusted divets, and thar she blows boys!!! i pretty much consider myself an all around car guy, i do all my own engine and body work, and if i can't see a big problem with something, then it kinda gets me thinking about other people who do, my only issue with that particular car would be how well the engine runs, and how the tranny feels, you don't want to get into something that has a slippy tranny, and you don't want to start it up and have it stall out on you a block away...
"I live my life a quarter mile at a time..." "for those ten seconds or less I'm free"
Wow. Big pics. Its definately a project car. Definately. Find a better conditioned car, just my .02
I wouldnt go through the trouble of fixing it. even though some may say that it wouldnt take alot of money to fix it, it would still take some effort. personally, i wouldnt put that much effort in a 15yr old car or older. just find one in a better condition, or tell ur bro to wait and save more money for a newer car.
so you guys are saying if i found a 67 fastback baracuda, for the same price in the same condition i should trash it??? think about your personal car in 15 years, are you going to trash it just because it's old? (if it held up that long conisidering how cars are biult nowadays)
like i said, it WOULD be worth it for someone willing to put the effort in.

well the one guy is driving a gen 3.... doesnt really understand the love we have for gen2s... the other not sure about
wicked
i wouldnt do it. 88-90 cavys are pretty plentifull still and can be had for pretty cheap in better shape than that. thats car isnt realy that bad, but for the money, you could deffinitly find something better to start with.
if it was a first gen z24 or sunbird turbo gt, id say snatch it up.
a fastback baracuda is a classic, the cavy is an economy car, not a classic. theres the difference. personally, i wouldnt even buy a fastback baracuda, but thats just me. too much time and effort would be spent. if u have that much time and effort, go find a job, save more money, and buy a car in a better condition. thats just my 2 cents, if u dont agree dont get all butthurt, simply ignore my opinion.
yeah mine was pretty rough too man... alot of hours went into it so far. mine is a '94 and was very rusty on the outside. personally i dont know how guys can let their cars get so rusty, but either way mine is done on the outside and ready for paint. 2 new rocker panels got welded on, both quarter panels, and the driver's wheel well had a huge rust gouge right through the outside. also countless rust spots all over the car. with a bit of fabrication, improvisation, alot of work, and alot of questions/opinions asked on forums like this, it is finally ready for paint.
the undercarriage is the next part of the project for me, it's rusty under there. but like the people say.. a grinder, wire brush, or some sandpaper and some black paint will fix that. it's driveable as we speak. a couple of people told me when i first got it that it wasnt' worth fixing... but i got the thing for nothing, there's only 185,000kms on the engine (compared to 311,000km on my sunbird) so i said what the hell, might as well see what i can do.
anyway man i'd say go for it, i've seen worse for sure. the key thing i learned is to grind all the rust off that i possibly can. this forum is great and i have learned alot! whatever you decide, have fun with it!
just my .02!
thanks,
KMC

he decided to let it sit, hes just not up to fixing up a first car. just too much to do on it.
i bought my sunbird for $50 and the only thing wrong with it was 2 rust spots and a head gasket.. so no that isnt worth the time or money.
