hey guys.
so this isn't good at all. it's the first (and i figured easiest) part of the z24 bumper/skirt installation. so i was going to start fitting the front bumper cover, i can line up the middle 3 holes (under the grill) fine. but the sides below the fenders are way off. there's a huge gap in the corners under the headlights, and the bottom 4 holes (towards the very bottom of the car) do not line up. the holes are ahead over an inch, and i'm about ready to #$@! call the whole thing quits.
however i did notice that on the bumper itself (that rubber stuff that is still on the car when you take the bumper covers off) there is about an extra inch of rubber sticking out along the whole front along the bottom edge only. maybe this is why my z24 bumper cover won't fit? for any of you who have done this (bonecrrusher, etc) did you have to mod the inner bumper itself before you put the z24 cover on? even if not, do you guys think i could mod this a bit by cutting off the extra 1" or so on the bottom lip? or would this cause problems?
thanks, hope you guys can make sense of that... i'm really @#$%! off at this whole thing right now. and i've never did this before, but i figured the z24 bumper cover would just slide right on like the stock one did. or maybe it does and there is just something horribly wrong with what i'm doing. im so mad.
thanks!

ok first, i'm pretty sure its been said many a time that you need to cut stuff off, that being said, i'm pretty sure somethign like "z24 bumper" in the search tool would have granted you some useful knowledge in this respect
"I live my life a quarter mile at a time..." "for those ten seconds or less I'm free"
yeah i searched but most of it was info for bumpers on the pre- '91 models..
ok thats cool, just wans not sure if it was ok to cut any of that off right.. so i can just keep on trimming until it fits the way i want it.. for some reason i figured the z24 bumper would fit directly over the black stuff. but anyways, definately good to know!
mine is a '94 VL btw, i believe the bumper covers came off of a '93 Z
im a bit more relaxed now... until i have to get the back bumper off (looks intimidating) and i dont think the skirts and door pieces are going to be an easy task either.. but at least i'm 1 step closer none the less with the honeycomb info!
thanks!

k good stuff, if i were you i'd just jack that rear bumper off in one piece, do it up off the car then just put it back on, i have had my back bumper off for the longest time, now it's on again i'm thinking of doing some filling in a fe places to smooth it though, not sure yet.

did you find it hard to reach the bolts to get the rear bumper off? the front wasnt too bad to get off (used alot of liquid wrench due to rust on the bolts) but the back bumper really looks intimidating, although i did not attempt it yet

only 6 bolds on mine just pop your head underneath and where there are two big old bars comming out attatching the bumper to the back of the car, they should be right there, only warning is if you have the running lights on the bumper, watch you don't yank the wires out of the harness
that would be messy i'm going to be pulling things apart so i can clear out that lense and put in some LED's

Rear bumper is cake. 2 bolts on each side in trunk, under the carpet...2 bolts under the car on the sides of the bumper, and then 4 bolts on each side connecting it to the pushbars that dampen any hits...16 bolts total.
You will need a 10mm, 11mm and a 13mm ratchet.
cool. gonna attempt the rear bumper tonight if i get my front fitted the way i want it... it looks like if i just cut the 1" lip off the bottom of the rubber (inside) bumper the z24 cover should line up the way i want it!
thanks for the replies guys, great help as always!
i really am not looking forward to the skirts though, the closest thing to the brackets i can get are off a Beretta GTZ as i stated in another post, will have to do my best to try and mod them! did you need to buy any clips for the door pieces 89Sunbird? or were you lucky enough to get a set with good clips? i am going to need some and i forget where the guys said i could find some :S

didnt get to the rear bumper, however i ended up getting the z24 front to fit! after a few hours of cutting, of course. turns out i had to cut off ALOT more than the 1" lip that i was hoping i'd only have to cut. either way that was the easy part, i'm attempting to get the rear bumper off tomorrow evening and depending how that goes i'll have the z24 rear on... hopefully. i'm not looking forward to the skirts and door pieces though with a GTZ rocker panel bracket for the skirts and a whole bunch of rusty clips on the door pieces
i appreciate the input from you guys, i am learning something new EVERY day!

Are you taking the whole bumper off the back or just switching the covers? It is easier just to switch the covers than to take the whole bumper off.

ah just switched the covers man, i left the honeycomb stuff on... just trimmed alot off, kept trimming until the bumper fit the way i wanted it to
