Well, my head gasket on my 1.8 turbo blew today, so i think now is as good a time as any to do an engine swap. I was thinking of swapping a 2.0 in as it seemed to most logical choice. However i have a 2.3 HO already, it was a running engine, it just needs to be reassembled. Has anyone ever swapped a quad into a 1st Gen?? I would like to use the 2.0 due to the factory turbo, but if i could feasibly swap the 2.3 i'd like to do that. Thanks.
Dreams do come true....

quad 4 has been done in a 1st and 2nd gen. you need in the tranny mount brackets, and you need pre 92 beretta subrfames and mounts. you need the quad 4 getrag tranny, axles, rad, hoses, ect. the biggest thing is the wiring harness. you need to get a beretta harness and strip all the front light wiring out of it, then combind it with your dash harness. the wiring is very time consuming and labour intensive. end result you get 180hp, can get it up around 200hp without a lot of work, but after that, it gets expensive.
i think your best bet would be to swap the 2.0l turbo. if you can get the motor, wiring harness and ecm, you are golden. your tranny will bolt right to it, same with mounts, rad, fuel lines, ect. the 1.8 wiring harness may run the 2.0l, but i think its best to swap the ecm/harness over to the 2.0l stuff. it isnt that hard to do. the 2.0l turbo ecm will run more boost and better meet the fuel requirments. i beleive your stock exaust will bolt right up aswell. overall its a bolt in, if you have some mechanical ability, should take a weekend. end result of it, 165hp, and all you realy need to make more is a tgp (turbo grand prix turbo, said to be 35hp gain at stock boost), a boost controller, and a FMIC. that should easy get you over 210hp, and with some tuning and bigger injectors, a lot more is possible.
search for a member with the username "Speedvisioncavalier". He's got a second gen and did the 2.3 HO swap. He also is an Achieva SCX owner and knows the motors pretty good.
Rock on, BTW. Quad's rule.
I know a guy named Allen with a 2.3 swapped 2nd gen sunbird. I believe it needs all the same stuff.
Why swap in the quad though? Why not a 2.0 turbo or just use a cometic headgasket. Even better would be just swapping the 2.0 bottom end with the 1.8 head for slightly greater compression and lower your boost a little with a bigger turbo.
