So... I shut my trunk lid a few months ago, and it quit unlocking. I wasn't worried about it too much until I noticed that one of my tires needs to be replaced.
Any ideas on how to bust open the lock? How easy is it to remove the rear seatback?
Also, what is the original tire size on an'86 RS? I have P175/80/R13 on there now, but I know I had something substantially wider when I first got the car.
As far as tires go, my car came with 195/70R13 Firestone radials. Its a goofy size that nobody carries anymore, but I tracked down a set of new Cooper Cobras from a local tire place. They had to order them from their midwest warehouse, but they're out there. It would probably been better to upsize to 14' rims. But I'm staying OEM with this car. (laugh all you want
)
YOu can remove the rear seat by taking out the 2 bolts that hold the bottom cushion, then you'll need to remove the Torx-headed bolts that hold the seatbelts and upper seat rails. You'll see it once you remove the bottom cushion. Its not hard, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to sneak through the metal back support between the trunk & interior. It might be too small. (I have a convertible, so its a different story.)
Good luck with it! You could always crack it open with a flat-blade screwdriver
But that's ghetto.

190/70/13??? i have never heard of a 190 wide tire. 185 and 195 yes, but never a 190.
if you do decide to go to 14" wheels, a z24 with 14" wheels uses 215/60/r14.
as for your trunk lock, id try some lock de-icer or some wd-40 in it. sometimes they jam up and need a bit of lube to get them free. i highly doubt you will get a spare tire between the braces behind the back seat.
I'm retarded. They ARE 195/70/13's. I had to break out the flashlight and pull the cover off. Sorry for the confusion

Oh, and if your lock starts falling apart from the inside... pulling out a random loose spring that's floating around in there will let you open the trunk again. Thanks for hte tire info though.... AAFES is selling Cooper Cobra 195/70/R13 for $58 a pop! I'm not sure that I want a set of tires that's worth more than the car!
