Found a strut tower brace

I know its not that interesting for most of you here...but I had to share. After 4 years of searching the local junkyards...I finally found a strut tower brace. It came off of a 90 Cavalier station wagon! It was just sitting there, so I grabbed it. $6 later, and a little detailing...and its on the car. (I love Pull-A-Part)

I can't beleive these cars didn't come with them stock. The first set of railroad tracks I went over...I could tell it was there. Really ties things together up front.
I know the rest of the engine bay needs work, mainly the fugly exhaust manifold, but here it is...

I'll keep on the lookout for another for you folks here. Seems the earlier model braces are hard to find. When you're at the boneyard, check out those wagons!

That 87 z24 Cowl induction hood is still sitting on that 87 Z24 at the local Pull-A-Part. All side skirts (save the rear bumper) are good, and so is the trunk spoiler, etc. Email me if you'd like directions, etc. I'd grab the stuff...but I have NO garage space whatsoever.

I never knew those came factory in wagons, it must have been put on by the previous owner. Good find though, I've been looking for one of those for a while now for mine but I never really looked that hard, but this April they have a special at one of my semi local wreckers where you pay $40 CAD to get in and you can have anything you can carry out, but you have to carry it out, no dragging it, but the dont seem to enforce that rule very much hope fully I can pick up a strut tower brace there and a few other things I need for my car, I'm getting a hole trans for my race car (dont laugh its been done, my dad did it last year)
We just bring some really heavy straps, rope and duck tape, so most of the stuff we walk out of there with is strapped to us, lol

Good luck with that, I hope you get one!

A junkyard near my folks closed down 2 years ago and had a $20 "all you can carry in 1 trip" special like the one you described. My friend and his father rigged a cart out of 2 8.8 Ford Mustang rear ends, and a Ranger Truck Bed. They piled it with top loader transmissions, and a TON of other stuff...and they let them through. Totally insane.

Is it wrong to like junkyards? *I mean Auto Recyclers*?

Sometimes we get hoods or wheel barrels and fill them up full of parts and just before we get to the line we lift it up and carry it that few feet and it counts, as long as you can find an easy way to carry stuff you can almost get anything out of there, I've seen people walk out with hole motors, thats just nuts.

So, if I wanted to have one of these fabricated... what sort of store would I be looking for? I just don't see myself poking around in junk yards for the next four years to find one of these!

Seems like a metal fab shop could do one up,just take ur car over and let them take measurements and have some pics of what it should or could or may look like.I think that would work just the same.I myself am going to hit some junko yards to see if I can find one thats sweet darryl what u found out of the blue.

they arent realy that hard to find. a strut tower bar is the same for 82-91, and lots of 2nd gens have them. first time i was poking around a local junkyard i found 3 of them.

Any good metal fabricator can make one out of angle iron or something but I have no clue how much it would cost. If you were good at welding and had access to some steel, you could easily make one.

Sharkey- I looked all over Chicagoland, and then here in Indiana since buying the car and just now found one.The only other one I saw was on a Z24 ragtop and some idiot bent it to get the motor out, instead unbolting the both sides

If you have them all over, grab them and sell them. I'm sure folks here would pony up some dough for them, they're discontinued from GM.

Most of the cars I see in the wreckers are missing the two bolts that hold on the strut tower brace, so Iknow there was one there, but I just cant get there in time I guess. But I've only looked once, I'm sure if I wanted one that bad and looked hard enough I'd find one.

Found a Z24 at the junkyard last weekend, had a strut tower bar on it...I jammed it into a wheel to hold it while i loosened one of the lugnuts (ebrake wouldnt lock up the 1 wheel) so if anyone is interested, I can probably grab it for ya

I did just that a while back. I think I had maybe 4 pre 92s and 6 or 8 92+ bars. All of them are gone now.

They aren't discontinued. Whatever dealer told you that just wasn't willing to do the legwork to get it for you.

Just installed my strut brace off a '91.
Went on in minutes. Just had to move a wiring harness
off of the blower motor.

You guys are right it does make a difference.
Noticably stiffens up the front end for a more
solid feel.
