I've seriously considered this, and did alot of research on it a while ago and maybee someday I might do it to a cavy wagon to tow with
that would be so cool, but way to much work.
I love that red cavy.
Check out the car in this
thread.
It used to look a little more subdued.

i love that hatchback, but i couldnt bring myself to cut up a hatchback z24. now if i started with a basemodel and made it look like a z24, thats an enitrly different story
that hatchback is nice, you would never know what was underneath the hood by looking at the outside. that is giving me some ideas of what to do with my 2gen parts car, its done stripped out. ive hear someone on here say that you could use a s-10 frame.
yeah, but u know it's a rear wheel drive conversion! look at the tires!
...
I was planing on making my own frame, but using a s 10 rear axel, its the same width as a first/second gen J. ANd you can also get them with rear discs
the first one the blue one ,in www.v6z24.com registries ,he claim he used s10 short cap short box and sat body on it but ia'm sure there bit more to that.\
to be defrent is to be original
Whats the wheelbase on the shortest S10? I thought for sure you would have to cut the frame down if you used it. The only reason I think using the frame from a truck is bad is cause you could see it and it would look bad under a J, but if you can hide it and make the car look stock that would be soo cool.
Actually I just saw a S10 today and I couldnt see the frame under it like most other trucks I was thinking of so you could do what the first guy did, but you would have to lower the truck it sits up to high, then thro on some cavy rims, or just stealies I( dont know the bolt pattern on the S10's) and you have a tock looking cavy capable of 11's
so did those guys use a s-10 rear axel for the rear wheel drive conversion? does that fit? wheel base wise i mean.
seems it dose, but none of these guy`s have any specification

A ford axel on a chevy! UnGodly!!!!
Evan Griggs wrote:A ford axel on a chevy! UnGodly!!!!
ford axels go into everything, they are one of the better street/race performance rear ends out there. a gm 12 bolt isnt as good as most people make it out to be, a dana 60 is massivly heavy, but a ford 9" is great.
if i was to build a rwd cavy, i would do 1 of 2 things for a chassis:
1)build a full tube chassis, cut the car around the rocker pannels just use the body
2)put in art morrison front and rear clips, tie it together with subframe braces.
either way ity would be mustang 2 front suspention, ford 9" with 4 link. for a motor i would likely go with a 383 stroker with efi, a 427 smallblock (world block, stroker crank, ect) or an ls1. either way it would have a 6 speed behind it. my overal goal would be to make it look like a cavy still (like that white hatch) thats unmolested, still keep a stock hood, ect.
bolt pattern on s10 is 5-4.75 same as most gm rwd
ford nine inch does out perform a 12 bolt Chevy for less money
From what i understand the pontiac Fiero V8 Conversion should work with the 2.8 V6
in the cavys because they use the same trany, probably only have to change the motor mounts, and computer.
and the fact that a fiero engine bay is way larger than a cavy. there is physicaly no way to mount a v8 sideways in a j body
good point , never noticed.

Actually the Fiero engine bay is smaller than the J-body.
The blue Cav is not on an S-10 frame, right in teh registry it mentions a custom fab Camaro (based) front sub section.
Yes, the 2WD rear end from an S-10 has almost the exact same track width as the J-body. This is what I was going to use in my conversion, but has since been scrapped, too many other things going on.
well you can find a for 9" rear to go under anything for a pretty cheap price.
the s10 bolt pattern is the same as old monte carlos, caprices, camaros, etc.
you can see the frame under s10's as well unless there is a body kit or a body drop on it.
there was a 1989 CRX with a chevy 350 in it at the nopi nats in atlanta, and the guy just put the crx body on a 80's model el camino frame that was shortened by about 27".
on a side note
an s10 frame would be odd because its a pickup truck. but the frame from under a gmc jimmy or a blazer would probably be more appropriate. i believe a pickup truck's frame has to have some kind of flex to it to accomodate having a bed. this would bend the cavi to hell if not fixed lol

i dont think the frame is diffrent from s-10 to blazer (could be wrong)...iv had um both and didnt notice any diffrence..but the 2wd and 4wd is diffrent...pretty much just more bracing on the 4wd

I dunno man, if CWS Tuning managed to cram a Northstar in an 80's VW Golf, i'm pretty sure you could stuff one in a cavy too.
