if anyone has any pointers id greatly appreciate it
Why not buy a used computer off EBay and take the prom out ?

Try www.car-part.com , they also list a bunch, looks like alot of cars use the same the same computer .The site is a Hollander so it lists all cars that use the same part. Look for an "A" rating and a warranty on the lists, and have them send a pic of the sticker also before buying....
www.row52.com lists upullit yards, just do a search and add your email and you will be notified when a car comes into the system.

I think you are looking for an HKS or HKT
marked chip for the ‘86Z , i swapped in an HUL
from an ‘86 camaro and it also works great.
Thanks ray its pretty cheap thanks. I paid 120 for a jet performance chip just to find out that i still need the factory prom to use it.. appreciate the help

I tried the jet chip for a year and took it out.
It made the fan come on too early even for a 160
Stat and i didn't like the new ignition curves.
The engine didnt seem smooth like the factory chips.
Might have been a bad one?
The V6 Camaro chip has proven to be better than the stock z24 for my driving and i even picked up a mile or 2 to the gallon better on average.
Ok i have the chip set but it is for a different ecu. Mine takes a big blue and brown chip still unable to find one

Does your computer have the white id label
with the part number on it?
yes the gm pn is 88999196 its the same ecu in the pic you sent
If I had the correct eprom id give you that too but the chip that came with the car is from the next body style z and it had a 3.1 so I doesn't work very well. Te ect reads -40. ive tested the circuits from the ecu to the sensor for shorts and opens- all ok. I even load tested them and installed a new sensor and Ecu. After doing some research found out it was the wrong prom. I guess they are pinned diffently ? I am a Cadillac technician so im used to very complex electrical issues but im out of my element with these systems.

Keep an eye out for 2.8 Cimarrons they have always been a good source for engine parts for my Z24.
