They didn't show the condition of the engine. I would want to see how clean it is under there for that price.

I recall when that one surfaced last year. I called them not long after and it was sold. Not bad!

Don't be cheap. You could easily spend twice that much money restoring a plain Jane car to look like the one in the video. That's a turbo edition so dash, hood, and emblems are made of unobtanium. It's worth the money with no engine installed.

Hey slow... good to see you're still hanging around !

Sorry to ruin your weekend guys, but that's not an original '87... tis a cloned '86 to a '87.

Looks like folks are starting to pick up on our turbo first gens, and what they might be worth.

Hey Alan,

South Jersey car- was it yours or did you check it out?

I see the 120 speedo and the '2.0 turbo' script over the radio, making it appear as an '87. AI look under the hood would have helped to see if the engine was swapped from 1.8 to 2.0.

Perhaps there were more than 5 of the '87 2.0 hatches made?

Just seems a bit hard to see someone making the effort to clone an '86 into an '87, then sell it, and further, represent it as an '87 at the sale. Would not a cursoury inspection of the title at the used car dealership list the correct year of manufacture?

Also noted that it had the louvers AND a rear wiper rocker switch next to the rear window defroster rocker. IIRC , you could not get both a rear wiper and louvers from the factory- I don't think there was enough clearance for the wiper sweep.

John... there were three models of the '87 Skyhawk.

Custom-Limited-Sport. The special option packages available on them were:

"T" pkg. and the Turbo pkg. Also available were the exterior Sport pkg., only on coupes and hatches, and the interior Sport pkg., coupes/hatches.

The turbo cars were the exception on the above items. They had their own interior schemes and some subtle exterior changes.

The grey-red-black interior was used ONLY on the '86 turbo cars, and any ordered with the optional T type interior package.

The T interior scheme was available in '87, but only on the Custom and Limited models, as stated above, the Sport/Turbo had their own combination.

Rear wiper was an option on the hatches, but not with the rear sunscreen, as you pointed out. Strange the third brakelight was mounted low on the car in the ad... and all Skyhawks had it mounted at the top of the rear window. I have just about every Buick model info, including cars from Canada, options and pkgs., and none show/list a low third light.

Point of interest: The tach has a caution (yellow) range and a danger (red) range. ALL turbo engines didn't have the caution band, only redline

and that started at 6 grand. Perhaps some of you Pontiac folks might want to offer some info on exactly where your redlines are... turbo only, engines.

So one thing for sure, it's not a turbo tack from my info.

Look at the pic of the sunroof area and pause. The front of the headliner area has three holes cut into it, or maybe something was installed there. I can't for the life of me see any option/interior pkg. that would be there.

That's about it for now as I really don't want to give the cloners more bits of information to make their jobs easier, but i'll say one thing.....

The car has badges where there shouldn't be, and some that are missing... just for starters, and I have spent all day checking books-parts manuals-and dealer brochures, plus, all three of my turbo hatches, on what i've posted.

The VIN can be found with a little searching so anyone with access to a decoder or database can clear up some questions.

More stuff:

Sunbird tach, at least phase 2 cars, have yellow band at 6k and red at 6500. But it's not the same as what's in that car. This GM commercial for 87 Skyhawk Turbo has a beautiful shot of the tach approaching the yellow line at 6000 rpm. This is also a louvered car but there are no shots that I could see which help with the third brake light.

The new product info video for '87 starts by announcing the demise of the T-Type package and talks about the flexibility in ordering interior and exterior sport packages. Would it have been possible to order the interior, exterior, and turbo engine options with a base model rather than try and put them into a turbo packaged car?

Ummm.... why did GM feel the need to have a muppet explain the technical details of the engine??? (24:16)

Note to self: Never get into a staring contest with a muppet.

Great finds! The use of a muppet is 'out there' Someone making big bucks signed off on that.
Guess no GNX in Canada.

Hawk tach in the commercial was yellow banded 51/2K, red at 6k.

The changes for '87 vid explains to me why the 2.0 turbo hatch I saw on the new car lot in October of '87 looked like a T type in all ways, but I could not remember seeing "T" type badging...I wrote it off to 25 years of memory fade...! Thanks again,
