Took out blue Cavalier tonight for a 35 mile trip tonight and about 1/2 way I started to hear a rattle sound. It Sounds like it is coming from the top of motor. It only starts to rattle with about 20% throttle. Hard to tell exactly where it is coming from but it does not sound very good. I made it home and removed the Alt belt and I still get the same noise. Could it be the timing chain tension-er? Anyone else run into this?
Well it could be the timing chain or tensioner. You said you pulled the alter belt so it rules out that and the fixed pulley on that alter bracket assembly. However with ps and wp still in play it could be your water pump( I replaced mine couple yrs ago) no problems just updating things coolant wise. You can pull that belt off run a minute or two see if NO noise.I have yet to touch my tc stuff but will do that once I get some other things square. And I have the paypal stuff square and may try to ship the doors thurs. If not monday bc I need some things to fasten the straps to pallet. It probably will be monday being I need to get said things and do not want to rush getting it right to drop off.Which reminds me to make the ship labels!
Found it! The idiot (me) that swapped the motor didn't tighten down the Starter bracket to engine bolt and the little nuts that attach the bracket to starter. Tough to find as I swear it was coming from the top rear under the P. S. pump.
Good for you John!! :-)
Here's high hopes the summer keeps on providing an easy fix or 2 for everyone!! Paul had a loose lower shock bolt.
I think our 1st gens are getting so old, that we all fear the worse when they shake & rattle when they roll!! LoL
.
Glad to hear it wasn't anything major.
