We had our Cavalier RS convertible repainted in the original Medium Blue Metallic and have a question about the pinstriping. We can't remember if it had single stipe or double stripe. I believe it was double. It was 3M red but if it was double were the stripes the same size or was one stripe larger in thickness than the other? What are the demensions of the stirpes width. Was OEM an 1/8th of an inch cut from the edge of the panel? I don't think it was tucked behind the panel? Does anyone have a picture of original pinstriping? Did the beginning and end of the stiping have an "arrow" connecting the two? Your help would be greatly apppreciated.
Here is a couple of sorry photos of donors I'd taken some shots of.
This one is known '86 model Sedan and has the more familiar twin pinstripe that is 2 different sizes.
.
This one is on a 2 headlight Type 10 Hatchback - I don't know the year of it, but it'll give you an idea of the equal size pinstripe

Sorry I can't do much for you with my Wagon, I taped them over and sprayed them when I did my own sorry rattle can paint job.
.
The Paint looks fantastic! Did you use the original bodyside moldings and emblems?
Wow, that paint looks awesome.
I did not put my stipes back on after my repaint so nothing to show
Hey guys,
The "Blue J" was repainted by the same Chevrolet Dealership that we bought it originally from in Feb. of 1988. The emblems were painfully gathered by my oldest son, Daryl who we gave the car to. Through a lot of ebay and bone yards , he was able to obtain all of the correct emblems and side trim. We have a complete set of emblems and moulding in a box as well. This stuff will get very scarce in the years to come. We (J-body owners) have to grab this stuff when it shows up anywhere. Daryl and I were looking at buying a '85 notchback RS the other day just for the parts. It was in sad shape but if they are going to send them to the crusher we need to act quickly, I guess. The notchback had a 5 speed manual trans and a complete dash and console.
Anyway, as you can see there is a lot of discrepency about what is correct for pinstriping. Keep 'em coming. Thanks for the help.
You know, I was thinking that car looked familiar... Used to seeing it connected with Daryl.
sorry, still have to learn how to post pics. will send later.
I have some pictures of a 1984 Cavalier that I just sold with 28,000 original miles. I am not certain how to post them to this site. Email me at mtbiddle2004@comcast.net and I will gladly forward them to you. I have them in a file on my iMac. If you have a suggestion on how to post them to this forum, I think everyone would enjoy looking at a great car. Thanks.
