1984 Pontiac Sunbird Convertible SPO Label

Ok guys, my Service Parts Operations (SPO) label from my trunk was in pretty bad shape. My trunk used to leak (like all of them do) to the point where it was holding water. I ended up drilling a whole in the spare tire well to allow for some drainage, but it never really solved the problem until I did the restoration.

At any rate, here is the data I was able to pull from my label. I am still missing some descriptions, so if you know them, please let me know. I was able to use a tool from the Camaro/Firebird Third Gen org called VIN decoder. That helped me fill in some of the blanks.

I was really scratching my head when I saw two "L" entries. These are reserved for engine designations. The I figured out LOD for Lordstown, kinda like STE for Ste Therese where my Camaro was assembled.

Wow! Memories of my 1st car- a '75 Olds Omega (Nova clone) hatchback. 4 years old when I bought it, and could not figure out the slower acceleration and sloshing in the rear after heavy rains. Was not yet 'into' cars but after I started the tinkering/investigating my ride phase of car ownership, discovered both the LR and RR fender areas behind the axel were loaded w/ about 5-7 gallons per side. Tried siphoning it out several times and then I figured I'd drill an 1/8" hole at the lowest point.

I had rain water splashing forward from the rear wheel housing, thru cutouts (holes?) in the front of the rear wells, that settled into the rear seat floor pan area. This was not discovered until a passenger's foot went 1/2 thru the floor one day. It had become a 'Flintstone' mobile. Oh, and the windshield leaked into the 'A' piller onto the FR floor pan, casuing it to sag there. Pulling the carpet and mushed sound insulation pads was like opening up a sunken ship.

With LOTS of fiberglass screen, fiberglass gel, stolen street signs, pop rivets, I managed to get it all repaired- not pretty , but the new pads and the old carpet (black fortunately) covered it nice. Always a laugh when on the lift to read the sign saying 'No trespassing- Morris Counry Sheriff's Department"

Ah, the good ol days.

Paul, Tried looking up some of the missing production codes from my 84 Cavalier factory manual and mine has the same codes not listed? Funny but the list is "GM production codes" . I was wondering which one is for the Turbo.

John-

The turbo package was identified with the LA5 engine . The WS6 suspension, K05 Engine Block Heater, K22 generator, and N73 wheel were all part of the package - they went together.

Must have looked at the SPO list 4 times and didn't read the engine code. Just like a teacher I had once that always said "READ ALL THE WORDS". BTW The powder coated engine components look great.

oops = looks like my typing was bad. CY5 is in the wrong spot. Should be the Gxx rpo for axle... More to come.
