Very nice wagon!! I've seen a couple of Pontiac wagons my way, one in the junkyard(now gone) and one at some low income apts. (also gone). I actually farted around a year or 2 over the later one, but never got it.....finally I think it got hauled off for scrap. Right after it disappeared the '84 coupe I've got came around, then I wished I had the wagon around to get it for parts. Isn't that the way it goes!!
Power doors & Locks were unusual for a wagon, it also has the trim going all way down the side too. Must have been the high end model.
I noticed that the low end Pontiacs like the one I've got, and Garth's too, have a larger, lower placed side marker on the fenders. This makes the fenders with the trim and without the trim, non interchangeable.
3K for the wagon......LOL, I'm beginning to like Dales Z more:-)
Actually I had to walk away from an opportunity to get a 2nd gen Z (running) for just $600 today at work. Just broke my heart, but not sure if my job gonna be around, so gotta buck it up and take care of priorities. At least I am able to keep and work on what I do have, so it's not all a loss. ......but the Z would have been really nice :-(

Tony-

You prolly have the spare parts for it . I always thought a Celebrity Eurosport VR Wagon would have been cool.

Price was reduced to $2998 on the bird wagon.

There's a white one down in BG Ohio, at least the last time I was there.

I had a 1982 J2000 wagon many years before I got my 1987 Turbo GT Convertible. I always thought it would be pretty cool to deck out a wagon in GT trim and swap in a turbo motor as well. You don't see them anymore because they are worn out an gone. My '87 has 174k on it. Most "normal" people would have thrown it away a long time ago (my wife for example). I feel it's my duty to preserve it or sell it to someone that will. Heck @ 174k that's only about 7k a year and that's a pampered car in my book. Anybody here able to do an "artist rendition" of a Sunbird wagon complete with GT hood, fender flares & 2 tone paint? Maybe someone will be inspired to build it.

cool, thanks for the welcome
i had seen it around town once. then it was at the junkyard and i knew it had to get it, needs a transmission but other than that its in good shape
here are some pictures from when i picked it up,

Mark-

Nice Wagon! Looks really clean.

Re: When is the last time you saw a wagon?

That is really a nice wagon!! Glad you saved it :-)
I noticed it has the roof rack, and chrome trim , and color keyed door handles - nice touches! And the paint is still in good nick ,amazing.
It's been a very long time since I've seen a Sunbird wagon about.
Looks like you got a great fixer upper. Did you find out which model you've got?
Top tip - the auto transmission off the Chevy 2.0 OHV isn't supposed to fit the 1.8 OHC in the Pontiacs - I think the blocks are different. Those 1.8 parts in general are getting hard to find too - snatch em up if you get a chance!! You can check with Paul94Z28 , as to the 2.0 OHC transmission, it might fit up - not sure myself. Paul is the OHC man on here he's been there - done that on a lot of things over the years and is very helpful!! Ron Love is the point man on J-Bodies here, and the parts guru - he makes this forum here the very best!!
Good luck with your new J-toy & above all else have fun!!

Oh yeah, Fiero wheels direct bolt on - as you see on my coupe. V
Early Grand Am I think are also.

it should be the base Pontiac 2000 Sunbird since there are no other markings it just has some nice options , i have a complete 2.0 90 Chevy caviler drivetrain for parts. it would be great if the trans would fit at a glance it looked like it would work, i saw some nice fiero rims at the jy i might pick up. the fwd dodge rims also fit

Wow a wagon owner on the jbody. With some cleaning and upgrades that will be neat to see.I see the 1.8ohc eng alot here with autos. And yeah the 1.8 and 2.0 are different to a degree and some stuff won't bolt right up. Not sure on the trans stuff exactly.I would have to do some checking books, and junkyarding As I love doing that.In fact going for a nice 4spd manual muncie as a spare wed,and just hope to get the axel nuts off,and have the right axle nut socket, puller set,and loads of tools. This is the 1st 4spd to finally jump on and just can't pass it up,parts are hard enuff to come by.Btw it is in a 85 cav type10

cool sounds like a great find, i really like the looks of the type-10 never even seen one in person though. definitely not many left of them

Mark- That looks like a real solid wagon there. Glad you kept it from the crusher. Face it - 1st gen j-bodies are into that 25 years old plus age that makes them all start to become rare. Considering the shape of the body on that car, it was either a little old lady car or you are not from around here. I live in NE Ohio. I have an automatic out of a 1987 2.0 Turbo Sunbird. It was good when I swapped out the motor w/trans because the motor was broke. E- mail me if you can use it. I also have a Fiero GT and the lace GT wheels looked good enough on here that I found a set of similar Beretta GT wheels. Have fun with that wagon and pat yourself on the back for saving it from the recycle bin!

I see your missing a door handle!! Your interior is grey right.IF so I can get a handle for a buck or two and ship cheap.Oh the passenger side I noticed it tonight.I am dirt tired after dropping a 4spd manual tranny extra for my cav as a spare.I see the 1.8s all day long here with autos.Mostly cavaliers but heck gm used the same stuff cav/bird on trannys I do believe. The trans stuff may bolt up different on the 1.8 versus 2.0 auto Idk really.I am thinking they are pretty similar just never really compared in the junkyards to see if it is actually. Now that I have a used trans I can learn more and know the bolts, nuts hook ups.I know the auto stuff is different just not sure where.

Re: When is the last time you saw a wagon?
Friday, January 06, 2012 9:29 PM
thanks for the offer guys, but i think i have all the parts i need for now, i checked out a few sites that sell rebuilt transmissions and the part number for the 1.8L and the 2.0 are the same so that looks good. i already have the transmission out of the 2.0 and ready to go, it might be a little while before i get to it but i'll post and update when its together

Re: When is the last time you saw a wagon?

Mark, can you tell me when you are referring to the "2.0", if you are talking about the 2.0 OHV or the 2.0 OHC engines. My local junkyard owner told me the OHV tranny won't bolt up to the OHC blocks. Just wanted to get a better idea of what is the real deal. I am lucky to have a yard hear with just about everything early 1st gen. quite a few autos and 4&5 speeds too I think. There is a 1.8 OHC auto there, and a 2.0 OHC auto too, and also a bunch of 2.0 OHV autos & Manuals. It would be nice if I could pick up just 1 spare to have as a backup for my '86 2.0 OHV auto & '84 OHC auto, instead of buying and storing one for each.
It gets a bit confusing because Cheverolet had the 1.8 and 2.0 Overhead Valve engines, while Pontiac marketed the "Brazil" 1.8 and 2.0 Overhead Cam engines - same exact size.

Re: When is the last time you saw a wagon?
Saturday, January 07, 2012 8:41 AM
ok sorry for the confusion.
i have a 1992 ohv 2.2 with 3 speed auto
my sunbird wagon has the 1.8 ohc with 3 speed auto
this is why i think it will work http://www.rebuilt-auto-transmissions.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_main.html?catid=257&l_make2=&sid=5uJJIM2xgHLoCIf-50112278395.5f
if the information there is correct souldnt the 3 speed auto be the same for all years ?
